Is your supercharger shutting off? You could be soaking heat, which means you have an intercooler pump problem. Did you happen to check your engine temp when this occurs? Generally, 03's are testy...

I've just had the same problem with my SL55. Seems to be a fairly common issue with the 211 55K engine, but luckily it's a simple and fairly inexpensive thing to get fixed.
Over in UK a new pump is $300, but I think they're cheaper in US ($200ish). A decent garage should only need 1-1.5hr labour to replace the pump and you'll be back to normal.

Loss of power
I had all the symptoms relating to the intercooler pump failing on my 03 SL55 and therefore changed out the pump for the much recommended Johnson 030unit - but same problem remains. After a hard acceleration (with lots of power on tap), it's as though someone disabled the Supercharger on run number 2.
Any ideas?

A datalogger will tell you the exact intake air temperature that your car is running. They aren't all that expensive in the context of owning an MB. You are also welcome to borrow mine if you feel like making the trip up US-23 to Ann Arbor.

Thanks for the offer - very generous. I've taken the car off the road for the winter months as it's never seen salt in its life (FL car).
BTW, I just plugged in an OBD II reader and found multiple PO 0451 codes - Evaporative emission control system, pressure sensor range or performance problem. Any ideas if this might be related?
Thanks again.

There's nothing on the Star Service DVD about P0451. Google searching on P0451 points to a problem with the EVAP pressure reading. Possible causes are all over the map, from a faulty gas cap to a faulty sensor to a faulty fuel pump.
So, yeah, possibly related.
If it was my car, I'd probably replace the fuel filter and add some fuel stabilizer as a low cost, low risk shot in the dark. If that didn't work I'd go into the dealer.
Hope you're able to get to the bottom of it.

Thanks again, good advice.
I also checked the code out on the internet and came up with the same conclusions. I cleared out all of the codes and will take the car out when the weather improves to replicate the problem. I'll then see if the same code re-appears - if so, I'll know for sure that it's related.
Of course, I'm looking at 4 months before that will happen - gloom!

We have had guys install the pumps wrong. Additionally, it sounds like there are a couple of other issues that need to be addressed. It might be time to visit the dealer!
