Rear Ended, Sandwiched, Probably Totaled Tonight
Late this afternoon I picked-up my SL from the detailers who had just polished and seal coated the paint and tinted the windows. My car looked amazing! About a mile from their shop the car in front of me suddenly slammed on his brakes! I did the same, my ABS kicked-in and the SL came to a sudden but controlled stop. Safely stopped I glanced into the rear view mirror just in time to see the car behind me still at full speed (est. 45 mph) plow right into me (no skid marks, driver cited for following to close and reckless)! The momentum was so great my SL was pushed forward 3' into the car in front (Honda Civic). After taking stock of my condition (not injured) I got out of the car and went to see how much damage there was. The car behind me (late model Toyota Avalon) was wedged underneath my SL and the drivers side airbag had deployed. The driver was okay and shaken and her car had obviously sustained major front end damage and my rear end was a mass of twisted bent metal (what a car, they don't build them any better!). I then went around to the front end and discovered that I had sustained major damage here too (caved in). My Tele Aid (just activated yesterday) was active and the police had already been summoned. Needless to say my SL is now a total wreck IMHO! Ultimately my SL and the Avalon were not driveable and had to be forcefully pulled apart and towed. More on this later. Right now I'm just trying to put the pieces together. Hellva way to start the New Year!

Sorry for your loss.
Only silver lining may be the replacement cost is less now, so an upgrade may be in order.

Thanks, had just left Auto Spa on Golansky and was on Prince William Parkway just before the Hillendale intersection.

That's an area I really hate drivng. My daughter used to go to the Chinn Center right near there. Those folks around there pay attention to nothing between the Old Bridge split and Potomac Mills.

Wow, just got the car and now it sounds like a total loss. It's a sickening feeling, but you are ok which is most important.
