SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL 63, why?
#26
because this is such a great car at doing everything.. its fast.. it handles fairly well given its weight... the noise the engine and exhaust makes... and most importantly the hard roof

I was going to part ex my SL55 for a newer 05 plate, mine is an 02.
They have a silver 55 05 for 46grand, they only want to give me 20k
for my car. Well they can stuff it! my car has 25k miles full MB service history,
and is mint inside, outside and wheels. They say it's to old and they would trade it, yeah!! I guarantee it would be on their forecourt for over 30 k.
Anyway mine is black, and black is best, unless dirty.
I realize they have to make a profit, but sometimes their just plane greedy.

word of the wise
SAVE YOUR MONEY! I been through it, made a whole bunch of money at a young age and had over 2700 dollars of car payments a month. didn't know what i was thinking a the time.
What you will learn with age is money comes and then it goes as fast it came
If you want a nice car- look into a used SL55 or anything in that range or find a great lease deal. Being that age, I know for sure you will change cars pretty quick
If I had a choice, I would pick up a 997TT. That would be the pimpest and best performing car in the group

Clk 500 is my first car, and i'm lucky enough even with this bad economy I won't have to get rid of it for a new car. Since I bought it back in late 2003, I've gotten older and now i'm in the market for another car; around what the SL 63 would cost.
I wouldn't go to far out on that limb there. I bought my CLK 500 new back in late 03. Not bad for a 19 year old considering I used money I earned and not some trustfund baby, or spoiled rich kid.
Not trying to get into a pissing contest here but 24 years old, and in the market for a SL 63. Not bad in my book.
Oh btw, in case you were wondering. got my real estate license when I turned 18. did that until 2005, (graduated college) when i got enough collateral to buy my own house and flip it. did that until 2007, then put my money into comidities. i.e. gold. been lookin good since.
P.s. how your portfolio looking? down the 40% that everyone elses is?
Again, i didn't start this thread to bash SL owners. I think their great cars and deserve much fan fair, I'm just interested in what you guys saw in this car that you did not see in the others I had listed.
thanks for the input.

Sweet mother of GOD!
Are you talking 5600,- a month..?
Just (but very) curious, how much is the salary, when the payments on the CAR are that high..??!
Because here in sweden, most people earn far less then 5600,- per month.
Before about 33% tax, that is...
Not saying that you are a bad business man or anything.
Hopefully, very little of that is interest.
But facts remain, the salary must be huuuge...
Or else, we have a very different priority for our cars expenses!
Because I don't know anybody who spend more than perhaps 20-30% of their salary on the CAR alone! You got to sleep/live somewhere. And eat, etc etc..!
And still, the car is an important thing for most people here!
After the house (or apartment), I guess it comes in second.
"Bling Thing", you know.

I have decided to keep my SL55, it's costing me 1180 a month and I have
a year and a half. So I will borrow 17K to pay it off which will leave me
monthly's of 490 over 36 months.
Should help the monthly money and I get to keep a great car.

Even so, I still think $5600 is a lot of money to spend on cars every month but I have an obsession that I haven't been able to scratch yet. With time it'll get better I suppose.

In other news I fail to see the point of this thread. Hell, as a Corvette owner even I can tell you many reasons to buy a SL63 over a ZR1. Stop "magazine racing", drive the cars, figure out what you like and buy it. For most people a couple seconds quicker on the track means nothing when you could be driving a luxurious SL63 over a plastic ZR1 rattlebucket. In my opinion the SL63 beats all of those cars you listed in the price range for an overall package. It doesn't have to be the quickest in the turns or have the most exotic supercar styling to still be a great car.
Whatever you choose congratulations on your success and enjoy the ride!

I have 3 Mercs.
To my mind if you sell a Merc,it's to buy another Merc.
Wouldn't consider Aston's,Porche or Ferrari, cut my head off and you'll see Merc written through.
I would like a SL63, looks great but my SL55 is lovely too!

Well since I happen to live in sweden, I'm sad to say that the SL is now in winter storage (damn season)...
But I acctually installed a illuminated BAR gage (turbo pressure)!
It sits at the bottom of the A-beam, in the corner of the wind shield.
A bit of work had to be done to the A-beam, so it kinda intergrates nicely.
Turned out great, I think.
I thought it would be good to have one of those, since the TT's often have problems with air pockets, pumps etc..!
And without one, it's not that easy to tell a slight decrease in pressure...
Anyway, for the time being I have to saddle with BMW 535d..!
The life here is pretty much as the polar bears right now, just WAITING for spring...
But I guess you're still cruisin' with yours, right..? (slightly jealous, I can tell you that much!)
What else is up..? Any plans..?
For instance, have you made reality out of your blacked out rims and red calipers yet..?
That looks leathal, and is for sure a head turning mod!

I looked at or considered all of the cars you listed, in one form or another about a year ago when I got my SL55.
My situation with the SL55 was a little unique. The owner of the dealership had driven the car for about 4,000 miles and then offered the car for sale at a SUBSTANTIALLY reduced price.
The car is more equipped than I would have wanted, but the cost reduction more than offset the added price for the additional options.
As for the other cars - they are all very good to great sports cars.
But the SL55, to me, is a really good balance of performance and touring capabilities, with comfortable passenger accomodations, decent storage in the trunk, and a large dealership network for any possible problems on the road.

Thanx, because that was what we were aiming for!
I don't know how much 20-22 psi is, since we have the metric system here. But the car develops 1,27 kg (bar) of boost.
But on the gage there's only 1,0. So some gets lost on the way obviously.
However, that doesn't matter since I easily can spot a decrease.
And that was the purpose.
I have it stored at a frinds car dealer ship, but I'll see if I can take some "after hours pics"...

Just ran the calculations. At sea level 1 bar = 14.50 psi, 22 psi = 1.52 bar, and 22 psi = 1.66 bar.
