SL 63, why?

First off let it be know that I belive that the SL 63 is a fine machine and it is a great Benz.

But i can't help but imagine what else you could get for 130,000+. espesially when you add the fact that benz values drop quicker than the Hindenburg.

Here in Orlando the Aston Martin Dealer is next to the benz dealer. for that kind of cash I would rather have a V8 vantage than a Sl63 and save like 20,000 bucks.

Yes, I know that a SL 63 will beat a V8 Vantage in every area except weight. but honestly 9 out of every 10 SL 63 Buyers get the car for Vanity Reasons and not the fact that it is one of Mercedes most advanced mass production road going cars. They just like to have that /////AMG badge on the back. even when they have no idea what that stands for.

Just ranting here but for 130,000 dollars

An Sl 63 is not in my top 5 cars in that price range.

For you guys that keep going on about performance get a ZR1. save 30,000 and beat your neighbor that just got the SL63.

For style go for 911 turbo and V8 Vantage

For Stuntin go for Audi R8.

For oh damn go for Ford GT.

The SL63 is a great car but from the sound of your post it may not be the car for you.

I had the brief opportunity to drive my father's SL63 and I loved it! I noticed several small detail differences from his prior SL55, ie. interior seems quieter, no rattles, etc.; the MCT makes the car feel real sporty even compared to my E63 and the exhaust note is amazing even compared to resonator replaced with X-Pipe exhaust on my E.

But it really depends on what you are looking for.

So what was the reasoning in your choice of the stellar performing 2004 CLK 500, certainly not just the 800 watt stereo, you have such great ideas on how to spend other peoples money what happened to yours

Clk 500 is my first car, and i'm lucky enough even with this bad economy I won't have to get rid of it for a new car. Since I bought it back in late 2003, I've gotten older and now i'm in the market for another car; around what the SL 63 would cost.

I wouldn't go to far out on that limb there. I bought my CLK 500 new back in late 03. Not bad for a 19 year old considering I used money I earned and not some trustfund baby, or spoiled rich kid.

Not trying to get into a pissing contest here but 24 years old, and in the market for a SL 63. Not bad in my book.

Oh btw, in case you were wondering. got my real estate license when I turned 18. did that until 2005, (graduated college) when i got enough collateral to buy my own house and flip it. did that until 2007, then put my money into comidities. i.e. gold. been lookin good since.

P.s. how your portfolio looking? down the 40% that everyone elses is?

Again, i didn't start this thread to bash SL owners. I think their great cars and deserve much fan fair, I'm just interested in what you guys saw in this car that you did not see in the others I had listed.

thanks for the input.

SL 63

I thought the folding top was a high priority and coupled with the transmission, performance and the comfortable ride found it to be the best for our interests.

one thing i don't like about it is the torque is not even as good as my old SL55... but still it's a very good all around car...

congrats to your portfolio.... i am sure u are very proud of yourself... btw i am 26 and this is probably my 5th or 6th car ever owned.... and also... don't worry about your thread... i don't think any SL owner will feel offended or bashed or even care what u said at all... but i wouldn't share my achievements like you did unless they are really outstanding... i mean getting real estate license at 18 and do it until 2005.. come on.. please keep this to yourself...

what does AMG stand for by the way? i am reallly eager to know...

Mr. McGuire: I want to say one word to you. Just one word.

Mr. McGuire: Comidities.

You ask why, I don't own one but I can say I think I would much rather have it than any other sports car in that price range, more power, so nice inside, stunning looks, good handling, that MCT, the sound plus its fast as hell.

The Mercedes does everything better than all the cars you listed. Its fast, its comfortable, its high end class, etc. All the other cars are mono-niched.

I'm sure they bought the new SL63 because the new styling looks bad ***
I considered picking one up, but then I drove it, and that's why I went with the SL65. I buy sports cars to drive them like I stole it, and having almost half the torque from one car to the next is a no brainer.

Allen-
I think if you are in the market for an SL63- or in other words the $125k plus market, I dont think little things would matter anymore such as why get this or that or this...get what you want, you have the $, if you dont like the SL and cant accept the depreciation , get an F430, AM Vanquish or other exotic used for a year as some mentioned.

I understand we all have to manage our money but if you are already up in that price range , the small stuff shouldnt matter, the people I do know that are in your boat, can still toss $ up here and there, take a loss and keep chugging with no probs. good luck.

There are, of course, lots of valid reasons for buying any given car and not buying any other car. So it's perfectly fine if someone looks at an SL63 and decides, "not for me."

My personal reasons for buying an SL55 were pretty simple. I wanted:

- A "Grand Touring" type of car that would be terrific on extended trips
- Strong engine
- Precise handling
- A convertible, with extra points for a retractable hard top
- Extra points for a first rate interior and exterior

If I didn't already own an SL55 and was looking for the same type of car today, the SL63 would be a better match for me than any of the cars on your top 5 list. That's not to say they are bad cars; they are clearly all terrific cars. They just don't match that particular buying criteria as well.

Just a very nice daily car to have.

I dont own 1 but i know people who owns them. They said = Comfy, classy easy to drive, looks good and best of the best hard top convt.

Nice dude!! nice to have young benz owners!!! welcome welcome~!.... most older benz owners get mad or somewhat when younger kids drive nice cars. I saw couple threads before some kid posted he has this this this and boy he got eaten up alive by the older folks....

I dont got no nice cars haha.

Don't hate on "trust fund babies" and "spoiled rich kids". They didn't have a choice, whether they like being rich or not.

If everyone sees what you see in cars, we would all have the same cars. Its called opinion and preference.

Good luck with your future, and your attitude won't get you very far.

After being sick for two weeks, I got to drive my SL55 the other day.
Sorry but Benz is best, you really appreciate a Merc especially after 2 weeks.
Tried Astons and a 997, but they just don't cut the mustard. I love the look of the 63 but I have been told my 55 is faster. You get what you pay for and
although Merc's are expensive and loose money, wouldn't drive anything else!

Sorry my reply is up a bit.
