SL55 Transmission Lag

The other day, I was backing out of my driveway when I noticed another car hauling butt up my street to the point where it was going to hit me. So I immediately put the car in drive but I noticed that there was about a 1 to 2 second delay or lag from the time I placed the shifter in D to when the transmission actually engaged. Is this normal on our SL55s?

The transmission wont engage until the revs drop, otherwise cruunnncch.

Thanks for the feedback. However, I noticed that just simply placing the car in reverse and then shifting to drive (without the emergency situation I described earlier), there is about a 1 to 2 second delay before the tranny engages. Is this a normal thing?

If you use the STAR service tool to go into the TCU, you can erase some of the adaptation and start from scratch. Sometimes this will alter some adverse shifting issues.

Is your car modified?

Hi, the first thing I would do is get the gearbox oil checked, if it's not correct
in can throw up a number of weird things.
Best of luck.:

Sounds like I will have to go to the dealer for this. My SL is completely stock except for the K&N filters. I want to talk to you about mods.
