Totaled 06 SL55 030 Replaced with 07 SL55 030

Yesterday the insurance companies finally came to the conclusion that my 06 SL55 030 sandwiched on New Year's Eve should be totaled. So, today I bought an Iridium Silver with full black Nappa leather 07 SL55 030 with every option (keyless, pano roof, xenons, parktronic, hands free, and a lot more) except Distronic. The car has 25K on the clock and comes with a CPO good until 09/13. At this time I can't tell you if there is a performance difference from 493 hp to 510 hp. However, I do like the way it rides and handles and the silver matches my 05 E55. I also like the carbon fiber accents, larger Command display and real paddle shifters. I'll post pictures in a couple of days.

BTW, they had a new black/black 09 SL65 Black Series sitting next to a new black Mclearn that was sitting next to a used 08 CLK 63 Black Series. Talk about a car show! WOW! Of the three the SL65 is unmistakeable and totally awesome. If I had $320K to spend I would not hesitate, but alas I don't. Oh well, I'm very happy with my 07 SL55.

SL55 HP

03-06 SL55's have 493 HP, 07-08 SL55"s have 510 HP. This is due in part to the larger 80mm throttle body. I don't know about European cars but suspect they are the same.

I have been following your posts since you had the bad news with your 2006 55.
At least the insurance company saw sence in the end and totalled your car.
Well it sounds like you have got yourselve an awsome new set of wheels, with so much to choose from i was intrested in what you would go for in the end,you have made a great choice imo.
The carbon fibre upgrade is a really neat option on the 2007, i am envious.
Well good luck to you mate, enjoy the new motor, but beware of low flying honda,s on your travels

happy motoring bc brit

You mentioned you like the way your 07 SL55 handles, does it handle differently than the 06? & if so, in which way?

At some point, the ABC system was updated on SL's. I'm not sure if it was on the 06 or 07 models though.

07 got a new ABC system and a new steering rack with new bushings as well.

Much nicer driving car 07 and on.

I knew it was either 06 or 07.

And yes, from experience the 07 drives much better than our 05 did.

Agree 100%. Although I didn't have a lot of "seat time" in my 06 my 07 just seems smoother and more responsive. This could also have something to do with the fact that the dealer put four new Bridgestone Potenza tires and brakes on my 07 vs. the 50-60% OEM Continentals that I had on my 06. Admittedly, I'm very pleased with my 07 and look forward to keeping it for a long time!

By updating the ABC system what did that do? I have a 2005 SL500 & I have

test drove a more current model & there is a world of difference in the

responsiveness of the steering. Is it possible for me to upgrade to the '07

Rack & Pinion to get this steering responsiveness? If so what would be the

cost involved? Also, I know for the 2010 SL550 they are going for a more

responsive steering called "Direct Steer".

Side Skirts

They are probably available but you'll have to contact Wagonworks in Alexandria, Va. As of Friday I will no longer own the car. It's new owner is Geico and the salvage dealer that submitted the highest bid. It's saddens me to see a car of this quality and reputation go to such an early grave-
