It is work for one eavening.

Thanks for the post I think you just made things easier. I have the paddles already mounted but didn't swap the internal board with the button I just used the complete new assembley but the wire colors and clip are different. I was going to just swap over the clips but was unsure of what color wire went were

It seems that everyone goes through alot of $$ and trouble to get the new paddles on their pre-07 SL's. I drove an SL63 the other day and after examining the paddles it seems that someone could just bond (tech term for glue) a set of paddles to their existing buttons. I know it sounds "cheesy" on 100k+ cars, but sometimes simple solutions are just as effective a complicated ones. Just a thought.

The wheel was about $2350.00CDN (1750.00 U.S.) if you send them your core ( stock wheel & no need to send the shift buttons they don't want those ) you can deduct $300.00U.S. of these prices they will charge you up front and refund you once they get your wheel. I chose to keep mine. The paddles part# 1712670046 you can get at the dealer. Also need to dremel the opening of the wheel for the paddles to fit in. I did all the mods to the paddles and the install myself so I saved on that. I am not sure that any shop would want to do those types of mods that needed to be done to make the paddles work.

I agree, please dont butcher your car like that. It would seem like it wouldn't be a problem replacing them considering the paddles probably insert in the same size hole on the back of the steering wheel as the earlier gen buttons however don't quote me becuase I am far from an expert.

As they say all holes are not created equal. When on my search to get my steering wheel straightened out I had 3 different sets of paddles and buttons at the same time that AMG said could possibly work and the size of all 3 were different.
