Won't Turn Over, Rough Idle
I took my SL65 off storage yesterday and drove it yesterday and today but this afternoon the car would crank but wouldn't turn over. Seems it was starving for fuel? It finally cranked over but rough idle. I then turned it off and started it up again and everything is back to normal but the Check Engine light is on. Drove home and started it again with no problems but the Check Engine light is still on. Will the Check Engine light disappear after a few cycles? Any clue what happened? Most likely a trip to the dealer is in order but would like to see what could be the problem before bringing it to the dealer. It's a 2006 SL65 with 3,800 miles. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That's a classic set of failed MAF symptoms. What's puzzling is that the SL65 doesn't seem to have a history of MAF problems like the CLKs and C classes did.
When a MAF goes bad, the rough running is from the computer system not knowing what to do to the fuel mixture because the signal from the MAF is bad. Turning the car off, then on, resets the computer to use a fail safe map so the car will run. Your gas mileage will probably drop. The CEL might go off after 10 start/stop cycles. Either way, a trip to the dealer is in your future.

An OBD2 code reader will tell you the code that's causing the check engine light. You can borrow one from your local Autozone store or buy one for a couple of hundred.

Thanks guys....my previous '04 E500 MAF failed also and it seems like the same symptoms although the W211 was running rough all the time. The SL65 seems to idle fine now although an hour ago I tried to start it up and the first time it wouldn't turn over but the second time it did. I tried it again just now and it started right up. I'll try to stop by an autozone tomorrow to pull the codes on the OBDII reader or just make an appointment with the dealer.

1st off, there is no MAF on the V12 BiTurbo cars, so that's not it.
It could be bad gasoline, it could be low fuel, it could be air in your fuel system, could be a lot of things. Hard to tell without codes. Don't think it'll be a big issue.

Thanks Marcus for the info. I did fuel up yesterday morning and afterwards is when the problems happened. I made an appointment with the dealer for Thursday but I'm going to try to make it to a shop to get some codes.

If nothing is wrong, the MIL light will turn off after 3 cold starts! Otherwise we need some code to help you!

Got my car back yesterday and the codes were P2050-P2053, P2055-P2057, P2059, P205B. All Misfiring. No current codes and the car is running fine so there was no further action needed.
