04 SL55 (sold),05 SL55, 09 SL63, 07 C2S cab Porsche,
Decided I really want to give them a chance to fix the problem. I love the car except for the rattle and I hate litigation. MB has always taken care of me in the past.

I went through the LL a few years ago on a BMW and at that time it was essentially how many days over a specified period of time your car was in the shop and out of service. Whether a safety issue or not was not a criteria - my issue was an intermittent starting/nonstarting issue.

no, actually they had a "tech specialist" come out and look at it. He states that the rattle I'm feeling in the floorboard is a valve opening and closing. he says this is "normal" Now, this is the 3rd SL class AMG I've owned and never experienced this problem. Further, I've test driven multiple SL63s since I've been experiencing this and none of those cars share this same problem that is "normal". Car feels like a damn rattle trap.
Therefore, I'm going to consult an attorney over this. The car was purchased in and delivered in CA and I live in Vegas so I will be looking into Lemon law regulations in both states.

I had a MB health check before buying my S600, it had a vibration which
improved when warmed up. They said it was normal, they said they all
do that. I bought the car and a month later the gearbox went. My lawyer
wrote to them and I got half paid by MB, so go for it!!

Hi, sorry about the crappy pics, yes the rear diffuser has large mesh holes
in at the bottom. Also the inner arch covers also have air slots.
Man I LOVE this car.

Hi, my car does not have the performance package, I think you get a stiffer
ride which I do not want. What I is some more miles on the clock so I can
give it some welly
Unfortunately or fortunately I am very busy so I can't get away for a drive.

Well Mercedes you really have made a sports car, instead of a Grand Tourer!
Picked my SL63 up on Saturday and I am truly smitten.
It's looks, it's handling, it's tranny, it,s sound track, need I say more!!
I don't know why there has not been more super threads on this car.
It feels quick although I am not pushing it. And the looks I get, wow!!
The SL55 may have more torque but the 63 would leave it on a twisty road.
This is the best MB I have ever bought, I am not missing the 55 or the 65.

It's just not visceral enough, 99% of the time all you hear is tire noise, instead of the wonderfull burbling exhaust sound. And when cruising in a straight line with the roof in place it feels remarkably similar to an S-classe (i guess because it has the same airmatic suspension, which i honestly dislike; i want to feel the road not to float on it ), only louder (because of the fatter tires) and stiffer. MUCH stiffer i may add. This car literally crashes over pottholes in a very rough and uncomfortable manner, and when the road gets harsh you'll want to leave the car and walk on foot, it's just so terrible. Oh, and i don't even have the PP installed
Anyway, the car is nice, but i was expecting much more on the confort side (maybe a setting designed specifically for bad roads to loosen up the suspension), and i was also expecting a much more thrilling ride with the roof up. So, to sum it up, it it wasn't a cabrio this car would absolutely and most definetely SUCK. As i said it is awfully unconfortable on bad roads and it is kind of cramped too considering it is based on the (old) S-classe, the tire noise sucks and the engine note is barely audible unless you really go for it (again, with the roof up, when down it's a whole different story ). So for me the metal folding roof is a no-no, i would much rather have a soft-top instead, and i now regret that i didn't get the M6 cabrio which for the same weight comes with 4 seats and a fabric roof (oh, and it's about 40000 cheaper too). Yes, it doesn't look nowhere nearly as good as the SL with the roof in place, but for me the driving experience and not the looks are important so..
PS: i guess Clarkson was right after all, giving this car just two stars..

I like to make people laugh!!
I have however been giving a great deal of thought about the cars I have
had. The guys with the 65's mainly CL65 seem to be the most interested
in tuning and drag times than cars as a whole. I know why the SL63 just bought is so much better than the CL65. Start with the sports wheel, it feels
superb before you even fire it up. Once warm flick to manual and feel and
hear the sound track on up and down shifts. Tweak the suspension and you can throw it around. The 65 is a point and squirt machine and launches you
like a rocket if you can stop the wheels spinning! Also the 65 is a better
car for the states where long straights are the order, in the UK our motorways/ freeways are too congested and policed, and our A and B roads
are full of bends, unlike the states where they warn you there is a bend coming because of there scarcity. The 63 is high tech cutting edge compared
with other AMG's ,that's why it's so much fun, and isn't it why you buy a car,
or do you want to boast about spending thousands on a 8% increase you
didn't need. I know I will get some stick from 65 owners, I am not knocking
them, I had one, but I bought it for the wrong reason, to own the most
powerful 4 seat production car on the planet.

Car Whore
if this car was a soft-top, i would not have bought it. soft-top verts on any car is not my style at all.
i think the car when it was stock was very quiet, i dont think i remember having any problems at all with the stock tires.

unfortunately i have to sell my SL. it has only 150 delivery miles on it. black/black/carbon fiber

Really? You came to a Mercedes forum for the sole purpose of insulting the brand? Maybe if you would have had some hindsight, you would've test drove both the M6 and SL63 before buying either. Just a thought... you know, before you blow 100K maybe drive the thing.

Hi, you are right on every point except that when the top is up you can't hear the exhaust AT ALL ! Why ? Because it is all covered by TIRE NOISE. I think that a fabric rooftop like the M6's is much more apropiate for a car like this (to let the exhaust sound into the cabin more easily AND to keep the weight low). TBH i am very dissapointed with the car in "coupe mode".

almost the same as with the top down. It's quieter than my SL55, tyre noise
is no problem and compared with ANY BMW it's very comfortable. The only
extra firmness you get is the fact it has 19 inch wheels instead of 18.
Go play with your beemer!!

Hi sorry to answer so late. I got 25k for thr SL55 7 years old and lost most
of what it's going to. I got 40k for the CL65. I was warned by someone in
the business, not from MB that in another year I would only get 20k for the65.
I also got 8k off the new car.I paid 67k for the 65 a year ago, so dropping fast!!
