Do they have to welded? or can this be reversible?

Can someone who had the job done please comment on the following questions:

Are the rears considered resonators or also the center ones?
Which ones are removed when talking about "deleting resonators"?
Does the exhaust system have to be dropped to weld in the straight pipe or is there enough room on top to insure a perfectly closed weld all around?
Is there a preferred kind of pipe to be used for this job?

My car has a Stage 6 RennTeck package which includes the RennTech headers.

Thanks
The center mufflers are what most people call the resonators and part of the res delete. I think it is pretty tight up there and hard to weld in place, but not certain. I removed the secondary cats and the exhaust system had to come down to do it right. 3 inch stainless (316 alloy) is the best. I used 3 inch stainless "U" bend for the secondary delete.

I told the shop I wanted to be able to reinstall the resonators if I did not like it. No problem. They were surgically cut and removed with no issues.
Can be easily reinstalled. However they won't be.

After driving my SL for just a few miles I LOVE IT!!!!!!

This is how the car should have been from the factory.
Deep aggressive rumble under acceleration but at even throttle just like normal.
No drone. Perfect.

My car just got delivered off the transporter and after I put on new wheels this afternoon it's going to get the resonators removed. Quote from my wife "you couldn't even leave this one stock for an hour?"

Had the resonators removed yesterday. Car sounds great, no drone at all. Actually would like it even a little louder but I'm sure that would be pushing the limits of what the wife would tolerate.

really simple, quick, inexpensive mod. I saved mine in case I ever want them reinstalled. Doubt it.

I had an appointment scheduled at RACE PROVEN MOTORSPORTS in CLAYMONT, DE to have my resonators deleted but apparently, they have grown too large to take on such a small insignificant project and suggested that I visist a muffler shop.

Screw you RACE PROVEN MOTORSPORTS, you'll never see my business again.

You will still pass smog since your cat's are still on the exhaust system. The shop will use stainless steel tubing which will need to be bent slightly to fit into the space of the resonators. Any muffler shop can do this in less than an hour.

AZBENZ, check out Benzorama. He had his exhaust done (SL600), sounds killer.

Installed Kleemans and removed the front cats a year ago and loved the sound. Yesterday I had the rear cats and resonators removed. Bit loud for my taste, I think the resonators are going back on.

No drone to speak of and at highway speed car sounds stock. Once you mash the go pedal all hell breaks loose. Another benefit is the snap when you rev the motor. Seems to rev more freely. Not crazy about the rumble when taking off from a dead stop till around 1500, after that it sounds normal.

Any 55 owners do it in the Orange County CA? Any suggestions for a shop?

As for smog, it should pass visual because it has cats and mufflers, right?

How did they cut the resonators? sawz-all or grinding wheel???

Gonna get it done tomorrow hopefully!

^ You have EvoSport not too far away in Huntington Beach. I have their ceramic coated shorty headers on my SL.

I agree the SL55 could do with more growl, but no way does the SL63 need
anything done. Everybody whether in or outside my car thinks it already
had something done to get that awesome noise. If you change the 63 I
gaurantee after a while you will put it back to standard.

I went to go get this done today. Exhaust fabricator said they would have to lower exhaust system to do welds. I just asked for the resonator delete (1 on each side) as u guys did.

They quoted me $500..
