SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Spontaneous Theft/Panic Alarm Engagement?
Sitting in my office and a high pitched wail starts emanating from somewhere close by. SOunded like a car alarm; turns out it was...on my SL...SItting in the garage, no creatures moving about - nothing. I can only guess that some stray radio transmission was close enough to the panic mode frequency on the remote to set it off...never has happened in the year I've owned the car...thoughts?
Cordless phones dial 911 when their batteries die. I am a deputy sheriff and have responded to many many 911 hang up calls to find the cordless phone sitting on the coffe table after waking the family up at 1:30 am.
Replaced both keys fobs with a pair of new batteries in each. Thought it was my garage alarm triggering the car alarm, so removed the garage alarm system. The car alarm stills continues to go off spontaneously.
Also, car spontaneously will not open with remote, and only with manual key. It displays "accessory battery", but this clears once started. This morning, alarm went while my wife had car parked at work.
The car alarm now goes off while driving, so she had to take taxi back to work. I'm keeping the car off the road until my Mercedes-Benz dealer takes it in for check on Wednesday.
Just wondered if anyone else could shed some light on possible solution, or if the alarm system can be disabled?
Geo.
