In order to change the crank pulley, you need a special tool from MB to get it off.

As for the 180mm pulley, in my experience anything over 172mm is going to require upgraded cooling. They can be monsters with bigger pulleys, but keep in mind that cooling issues may arise.

I also got a cm30 upgraded pump. I was just wondering where I could get info on a DIY for the pulley and the pump, and also down the road I would need an HE or other cooler mods

Here's a step by step DIY guide to replacing the pulley: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...ions-pics.html. It used to have pictures but they're no longer in place.

Personally, I paid to have the pulley installed on my SL55 rather than doing it myself. While I'm nowhere near the world's greatest mechanic I have swapped a crank pulley on an GM LS6 engine, so I have experience and some self confidence. When it came to the AMG engine, however, I simply wanted someone more experienced than me doing the work.

CM030 pump replacement is simple by comparison. You can probably find some DIY threads around the forum but if you remove the underneath engine cover and look at the pump, you'll probably quickly see what you need to do.

Good luck with the projects!!

P.s.

Every DIYer
should have a copy of the official Mercedes Star Service DVD: http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/o...stedDocId=9124. It's cheap (something like $100) and is full of useful information including torque specs.

It will also have the official crankshaft removal and replacement steps which are slightly different than the DIY thread. The rub with the official procedure is that it requires the special tool that Dino mentions in his post. While it's possible to use other techniques such as the one listed in the DIY instead of the official tool, there are some risks with doing that.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!!

I think VRP and Kleeman, as well as LET I guess...all use the 180mm pulley ...not sure if they insist or recommend a cooling upgrade to the sl55 ...i know that evosport offers an H/E cooling upgrade system but it'a standalone, not part of the pulley upgrade...

I have that DVD manual and it is brilliant. I am used to the Ferrari service manuals that assume that you already know everything, and the manuals were translated into English, by someone that only speaks Chinese! If you are doing anything on your own, buy the DVD!

As for cooling.... w/that 180, as soon as you start trying multiple back to back runs, without extra cooling the car will turn the SC OFF until it cools down.

Someone should write up a DIY for the pulley on a SL55.
