Preliminary pics of SL63 rear on SL65...

I picked up the car this afternoon and took some preliminary pics...raining all day long so the pics aren't that "clean"......Hope to get a photoshoot going sometime in the near future...

PS...Got the new rear spoiler shot in satin black, too.

Also got the new city lights installed...finally got rid of the yellow hue of the stock city lights...

Next up...

1. A front spoiler lip (in satin black) - working on fitment now
2. The triangle portion (base) of the side mirrors will be painted satin black.
3. CF trim plate for the HU

Looks Awesome, AMGfan!!

It looks as though it came that way from the factory and it really brings your car together. You have one insane SL!

Looking good AMGfan

Did you buy the bumper from a dealer? Was it a direct swap, or were modifications necessary for it to fit?

We got the bumper directly from MB...there was some trimming of the plastic undertray/heat shield but you can order that (the SL63 version to save you the hassle) from MB since now you know it needs to be trimmed to fit.

The actual bumper swap was pretty standard per the techs at the shop. The attachment points were the same...

I was able to see the car yesterday at C2Design. Everything looks really good!
Its a very complete transformation. Alot of custom details all around the car. This new SL63 rear bumper makes the regular SL rear bumpers obsolete. Now everybodys got to get one..
You cant see it in the pictures, but all the satin / gloss black paint contrasts on the car, really stand out!!

i think it looks great! however i think you should've opted for the carbon diffuser so that the vents on the diffuser would be actual real vents and fake covered ones on the plastic version. i know they arent functional anyway but having real vents always looks better than the fake ones!

i hate the plastic diffuser on my sl63... going to change it soon tho!

We were actually thinking of getting mesh that would match the front mesh...we will probably do that but we will also explore your idea of creating a mesh/vent look. I like you idea a lot the more I think about it...

so does this swap consist of two main parts the diffuser and the rear bumper from the sl63? Or is it sold as one piece?

Well... I don't really understand why everybody jumps on the "Wow"-bandwagon... The PDC sensors were dropped with the new bumper and the tips don't stand out as much as on an original SL 65. I got the new bumper on my ride (incl. PDC sensors and readjusted tips)... and all I got were several "looks nice"?!

Sharkster...my 65 never had the PDC sensors. The tips will be adjusted when I have the straight pipes installed next week.

Jon

PS...I think your car is just as clean and impressive. Larger and higher resolution pics might help with subsequent reactions...trust me they help a lot.

Almost there...I've got a couple of projects in the engine bay and exterior details that I want to nail down...THEN a decent photoshoot with some professionals...

Then on to the next project...I'm looking at a white Tahoe to replace my pimp Cadillac as my DD and people hauler.

LOL... I didn't even know you did it until now, after checking your pix few reasons it went on to collect dust. 1st like Jon mentioned post higher res bigger pix so all can see, 2nd you painted new diffuser matching body color gloss black, it just camouflages it. 3rd NO new rear trunk spoiler, you really need it to complete the look. 4th SLR wheels seem to ONLY look good on SLR's...

Lastly it's only a 55 J/K

Yea... I painted the diffusor glossy black to make it look more integrated... And about the trunk spoiler: I don't like it... the standard trunk already has a slight lip molded into the metal, so I don't think that an extra lip will make a lot of an aerodynamic effect.

Thx anyway. My ego feels slightly better now...
