I still wonder if buyers will be content with a "gullwing", and no sunroof/retractable roof option? That's even aside from parking clearance issues.
Apart from the overall design (like or dislike), I was more interested in eliciting comments on the modern driving/parking practicalities of "gullwing" doors.

If someone wants the open roof experience, then they can buy the SLS convertible which is coming in 2011.
As for the practicality of the doors, there may some situations where they are practical, and others where they are impractical compared to a normal car. I have never driven a gullwing vehicle before, so I cant really tell. But I guess overall it may be one of those minor impracticalities that you have to deal with when you own a supercar. But the cosmetic benefit and historical significance those dooors have definitely make it worthwhile for me.

Here are some pics of the SLS, in Holland! These cars are made for potential customers, so they can drive it! The cars are surrounded by Audi's R8, Ferrari's F430, Porsche's 911, for the comparison with the SLS!

by the arrow, the people thinks the customers go for the Ferrari, because they said "It is more exclusive then a SLS" and "This car you can buy at the dealer next to a A-class". Well, that the biggest bull**** I've ever heard! But hea, that's how people think when they compare a AMG Mercedes against a Ferrari!

check out this rendering. It is reasonably accurate,I think....

Also, about the doors, you just reach for them, no power option, which is easy unless you are really short,or a woman.
You can see in this pic that the distance to reach is not too far:

my wife wild, but she loves every minute of it.
Instead of the thinly veiled attempts to disguise and hide, MBZ should do what Ducati does and post photos and videos as development proceeds.

I like the red version. Most people that might be able to afford the gullwing wouldn't have to worry about moving the rake or lawn mower out of the way in the garage.

SL55 AMG
I like the front a lot; the fenders are good also...but I don't like the rear; lrear decklid looks like the rear of the lexus hard top vert; tailights are not doing it either and the tailpipes are too sharp for the accentuated body of the car; amg should have quad tail pipes as well....lastly the way the rear window wraps around and the C-pillar (or in this case combined B and C pillar) looks very odd; not in line with the shape of the car with a bit drastic slope on the trialing edge...
they still haven't touched the grace and perfection of the original SL Gullwing of the '50's ....that car was just right, period! I still think the '03 - '08 R230 looks better the SLS; next to the original it's the next best shape and design of the SL..

It's definitely a 'NO' to me, but who am I to judge that ? Its like they threw all styles together and shook up for a few seconds..

You'll never be able to recreate the passion of the original -- this will always be a pale imitation in the eyes of true MB connoisseurs.

However, it is going to sell like crazy ....but I wish Mercedes would not do this Retro stuff

yes people, the moment we're all waiting for!!! (I know, late reaction (laptop was broken...)) A bit of a shame that I have not seen the first pics of it, to post on this forum...
I like the SLS a lot! This was for me the car to wait for! But I've seen the pics of new McLaren MP4-12C, and, sorry of that, the looks of that car, are more my style then the new SLS. All I can do, is wait to see the SLS in person, then I can give a real opinion.
