I've got a official picture of the SLS AMG (copyrights Autowereld.com) and a picture of a SLS convertible.

Definitely looks like they are trying the throwback/retro look, just not sure it's fitting on this car for me. IMO it looks like a cross between a Z8 and a SLR. Not really digging the front end.

Its ugly, headlights have to be on same level as the grille, and they should be oval instead, if they want the retro-look ! Just my 2€ !

@Thericker,
you have right to say that! With your lovely SL! I think you don't have to compare it with the original 300SL. See it like the Mini Cooper or the Fiat Nuova 500. It's a modern car with some style points of the 300SL, but not a copy of it. (the license plate on the front makes it also not pretty to see)

Can't say I really like it either...MB seemed to knock one outta the park w/ the R230 '03 - '08; after that ...
I love the original 300SL Gullwing; that is IMO the best looking MB ever! This one tries to pull cues from it but it's not getting it done; Ford did a better job replicating a modern version of the venerable gt40 I think...

The red concept car is rather beautiful.
Is there a chance they may drop the "gull-wing" idea for production?
The "gull-wing" is a problem for normal driving :
1) more side and upper clearance required in home garage (single garage impossible and double tricky)
2) some urban office/parking/lots/garages may prove tricky (can't be too near adjacent vehicle and some concrete support beam may be above or beside the parked car)
3) much more care is required in normal street parking (may be too close to a pillar or concrete planter, for instance)
4) design will not permit either a sunroof nor a retractable hardtop (previously, with the 50s design, an open car was achieved only by making it a convertible without "gull-wings")
I would be most interested in the red car design with conventional doors, and a sunroof or retractable hardtop.

@shaw01,
your picture is just a car made on the PC (I don't know how you call that) from what people hope it will be the SLS. Not a concept. (Do you see the W211 headlights on your car?)
@MB Hunter,
that's exactly what I think.

You see 211 headlights, they could be porsche just as well, but who really cares if it looks that good? I find it funny that so many people compare and say this car is ripping off that car .. by this point in automobile development you'd be hard pressed to produce a headlight that has not existed before.
And agian, who cares? It's ths sum of the parts .. and that white one is something awful.
BTW, got the picture from this site .. don't remember where but it was a post over a year ago about this concept, so I know I didn't make it .. though frankly I wish I had because that would sell.

I know this was an issue many years ago so it's probably not now .. in the end, if it looks like the red one I'd buy it no matter how the doors opened .. and they could turn into real wings and make the car fly but I still wouldn't buy that fugly white thing.

@shaw01,
you can find the pic of your SLS on google. I can't tell where it's made, but I know it is'nt a official Mercedes Concept Car (because they have call it "Vision SLS"). I agree, the concept is gorgeous. But it is'nt the official SLS... Well, with the headlights, it doesn't matter actually... but look to a 211 headlight, and from the red concept, and you will notice they look much on each other.
And with the white one. I see that many of you guys don't like the car. But I am curious about, when the car is for sale, how many SLS AMG's there would be sold. Also to you guys. I think that there are many people who trade their SL, or even a SLR, in for a SLS.

here I have some other Wannabe-SLS AMG's. All of the same type of car, like the red one. Only the last car (also a PC preview) is made by a German carsite, that knows most of times, right before they unveil the official pictures from the manufacturor. That car looks the most on the official SLS. Look at this.

Update news!! Spyshots with minor camouflage, on Nurburgring Nordschleife, Germany.
I've got some pictures found of the SLS AMG, with minor camouflage, testing around the Green Hell (nickname of the Nurburgring Nordschleife).

It reminds me of the concept drawings of the origional Viper .. it was hot as hell .. turned out to be pretty cool still, but not nearly as hot as the concept.
Red one would be a huge hit. White one, not so much.
