HELP!!! Bootlid won't shut to put top down!
***Heading should read to put top UP!!!! I have had an SL500 before so I understood my SL55 quite well....narrowed it down to the fact that one of the two small pieces that extend down or up when the bootlid is open won't fold down all the way when putting top up.
I have to get out of the car and gently push it into the locked down position and then it works fine.....no error light on dash...hate to bring to stealer for something I am sure is easy & cheap to fix! probably a loose screw or something easy....anyone had this issue? It's driving me banana sandwich
Attachement is a pic off google of the piece I am talking about...

Same thing hapened to mine... There is a repair kit you can buy from MBZ. Cost me about $60.00 US. They are a bit of a pain to install but i finally did it. Basically, there is a metal guide that houses the gear system that moves these flaps in and out. The stock ones are pot metal and bowed therefore the gear slips. The new ones are stronger so the wont bow. Takes some patients but well worth the effort - i would hate to see how much the stealer would charge...

Thanks for the info!
After I posted this I had the same problem the next day, and I got out of the car, put the flap back in place and it has worked ever since,
I will be getting that kit from MB because I am sure it will come back to haunt me if I don't
Thanks again!

You should be able to contact dealer and order rthe repair kit. I ordered it from a dealer in Buena Park California. Let me know if you have any problems.

Bought the kit today from MB of Honolulu. Luckily they had it in stock :-) It took maybe 30-45 minutes to install the new pieces on both sides, and now my top operates flawlessly.
