SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Buying from out of state dealer
Do you think a local dealer would be interested in getting that car for me? If it costs me a small extra premium, I'd rather just get everything done locally. Anyone have thoughts on this?
Very simple actually . You go to your local DMV and theirs only one extra form to fill out. The process is exactly the same w/ re to registration , plates , insurance etc. My car went from Illinois to NY .
Good luck
Title will take a few days once the car is delivered to arrive. The dealer will give you
30 day temporary paper plates till your title arrives that you put in window.
Not a big deal at all . Most likely DMV will charge you tax on sale also because dealer wont .
The other thing that's a little annoying is dealing with the DMV and getting the car inspected. When you purchase from your local dealer, all that is taken care of. Buying this way, you need to get the car inspected, you need to fill out all the forms and don't forget that you'll need to produce a notorized bill of sale for the DMV. If not, they'll charge you sales tax on the blue book of the car.
That's what Maryland does, anyway. But, I saved thousands purchasing this way.
My latest purchase, the SL600, I flew out to Chicago and enjoyed every friggin second of my 12 hour drive back to Maryland.

Thanks for all the info. I am in San Francisco, and the car is in Jackson, Miss. I don't think I would like to make that long drive
.I wonder if a local dealer is willing to handle all the paperwork and stuff for a fee. Would make my life much easier, since I have no familiarity with this.

This is a typical situation that occurs when people are trying to do business on the interent. If you really want to do business with somebody out in cyberspace you have to go to all the trouble that comes with it.
You have to do all the extra work and take all the extra risks, yourself.
I bought a car off ebay, thousands of miles away, sent them a big check and got a good car.
But most people would be scared to do it.

Pretty smooth process, do the DMV paperwork, pay your taxes, and done. I had my cars inspected by an MB dealer before pickup as well. The dealers paid the inspection cost to the MB dealer near them.
I bought one from Colorado shipped to CA.
- If it fails smog check in your state this can get ugly.
- YOu will have to go to DMV to take of paperwork, no AAA convenience for out of state vehicles.
- My registration got ugly. They gave me tags then 1 month later said my reg. was invalid because I didnt have the previous title. I had to get the previous title from the dealership, this was a hassle, and i was LUCKY they had it- or else they had to request it from local DMV ( wait 6 weeks) then send to me , then I send it in...yuck.
- However I would do it again, BUT from a dealer I know or a referred one. Its hard to deal with someone out of state on tougher issues usually need to be dealth with in person.
I've become great friends with a MB Sales rep in Colorado that can work to find you the right car, PM me if youre interested and I'll send you info.
