SL55, SL600, SL63 or SL65 For Performance Upgrades?
My brother is looking to pickup either a SL55, SL600, SL63 or SL65. It is going to be his daily driver for only 15 miles round trip in Southern California. He currently drives a 08 SMG M6 for a daily driver. For a price range around 80k which is the best vehicle that can be tuned for the maximum power? What will be comparable in handling and transmission wise? Thank you.

If he finds the right SL63, he won't mind paying 95-100k if the deal is right. Which vehicle is better to tune, the SL600 or SL65? Aren't there more advantages to the SL65 since it comes with better brakes, suspension, etc...?

The SL600 is the only 600 to come frome fact w/55 AMG 8 pot/ 4 pot calipers It was an option on all other 600 models...Suspension is the same, ABC used across the board 600/65 models...

So what is the benefit of getting the SL65 over the SL600? I know the aerodynamics and in terms of power it is 510 HP and 612 ft lb for the SL600 and 604 HP and 738 ft lb for the SL65. Is it worth the savings to go with the SL600 over the SL65 to invest the money in tuning?

The other comments are on the money but I'll chime in anyway.
Your brother would get max power from a modified SL65. If he can't find an SL65 that he likes, he can get pretty close to the same power level with a modified SL600. The biggest difference is the SL65 has a larger displacement engine, 6.0l versus 5.5l.
SL55s can be modified to make a fair bit of power but are down on displacement compared to both the SL65 and SL600 and the supercharger is less efficient than the twin turbo setup so you have to work a lot harder (and spend a lot more money) to reach similar power levels.
SL63s are great cars but the naturally aspirated engine doesn't lend itself to power mods.
FWIW....
