I was the first on the list for my '03. 7 years on, I've got 40K on her. Great car, just maintenance. I have had so many different software changes, as I used my car to develop our 55K programming. Even with all that, and some top speed runs and track time..... stone cold, bullet proof. Thanks AMG!

Owning an SL without a warranty, albeit risky may not be nuts...the engine and drivetrains are solid, the only thing really that is a high risk is the ABC system, SBC once cleared of the factory recall for the pump should be fine and has a 10yr standalone factory warranty. That leaves the roof...can be expensive but ussually a small item like a sensor.
the key is having a good trustworhty whop that are experts with the R230 body cars...

Who has their ABC pump replaced already? I'm pushing 60k miles on the old SL55, and my S55 was up for a new pump @ 75k miles... So I'm starting to worry a bit. Not so much for the cost, but for the inconvenience e.g. whilst on vacation.

you need to diagnose ABC problems as they come up...could be the valve blocks, or a damper on on one of the corners, or the pump...or it could be a leak in the lines or from one of the dampers. Just depends...they ussually flush it first then diagnose it on a rodeo program through STAR. It's not mileage dependent.

i WOULD worry about the cost. the cost of repairing the ABC system could approach the value of your car!!!!
