interesting observation
i was looking earlier for some information on the sl55 and went to the USA site instead of the canadian one i usually go to. it is very interesting that in canada, bixeons and parktronic are standard equip. and in the USA they are options. The real scam though is that they charge you 900. dollars for the bixeons, yet up here they are only 400. canadian as an option on the sl500. that is less than 300 bucks american. strange that there is such discepencies.
like i said, just an observation.

I put this chart together on a rainy weekend last year using published prices in local currencies for German, the UK and the US, then converted the UK and US prices to Euros at the prevailing exchange rate to allow comparison between the three countries.
I've updated it to reflect current exchange rates but have not adjusted any prices - some options have gone up or down, the price of the cars in Germany has gone up. It covers the SL500 - at the time, the US pricing for the SL55 has not been published.
The main thing to note (from the rightmost column which shows the US prices in Euros and compares them with Germany) is that options are much more expensive than in Germany but that the car is now less expensive because of the exchange rate change over the last 9 months.
Mercedes are selling the car at a significant discount in the US and Canada; there's more profit in the SL than a cooking C-class, but eventually, the price will have to go up...

The Germans don't have a CD player stock.. that sucks!
btw: blueSL, what do you do for a living which allows all this free time? Even as a student i wouldn't have that much time!

2003 CLK500
super car... just got it Saturday. (Drove a CLK500 for six months while waiting; it wasn't bad, but no comparison.)
Did observe the weak Dollar relative to the Euro too... makes me wonder if there will be a price increase on the '04's... doesn't matter... the car is fantastic; what a piece of engineering.
thanks to the posters here, for welcomed info. over the last few months...

BlueSL - Incredible chart - amazed we seem to be getting as good a deal here in the UK as the USA and Germany!!
Isn't BOSE standard in the UK or is this some type of upgrade. Mine came with Bose standard.
Cheers

Well done , BlueSL, very interesting chart. One factor to be considered is that a RHD orderd from Germany will reflect those prices, but with €4,700 approx. added for conversion to RHD.
This is Mercedes way of adding a margin without falling foul of MBUK or EU regs on transparent pricing. It's the first time I remember in some 25 years of buying and importing Mercedes where there is no obvious MBUK margin over German prices. Suspect a 5% price rise here very soon.

These figures are for the SL500, where BOSE is an option in the UK; things have changed quite alot over the past year (pricing, exchange rate) and so on, so I'll revise it over the weekend for the SL55 and post here.
