After some scrounging on the net I determined that this info is not forthcoming from the vin.
For those interested, the vin is broken down in the following way:
Position 1: Country of Origin (W)=Germany
Position 2-3: Manufacturer (DB)= Mercedes Benz
Position 4-8: Model info: (SK74F)=SL55
Position 9: Check digit
Position 10: Model Year (3)=2003
Position 11: Where Assembled (F)= Where mine was assembled. Don't have the decoder ring for this.
Position 12-17: Production sequence #
