They are afixed with 3m tape. You will be sorry if take them off unless you have the tape to put them back on.

Sure, I did it to paint them black. Another forum member gave a great tip. Loosen the 2 torx screws and then use floss or fishing line to slide between the grill fins and the fender so as to not scratch the paint. Pick up some 3M two sided tape from a body shop, it's dark grey, and replace the old tape when you re-install the grills.
