2004 SL55 AMG
Finally complete!
Well, I think this is the end of the road. I finished it off with RennTech badging. Here are some quick “glamour shots” I took this morning before a quick 140 mile Sunday drive peak speed was 155 mph and the car was still pulling really strong.
I can say with some confidence I think the build is done... At least for now
I want to thank everybody here for their help, suggestions, and comments. This forum has been an incredible resource throughout the build. So, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the final product. The good, the bad and the ugly. Hopefully more of the former and not the latter
Cheers,
Simon

So much for the build being finished... she's at the dealer for a little more "elective surgery" by Dr. RennTech
by next week her HP will be up to 610!
figured i had to do it in order to represent well at Gumball next year

Had an amazing time on the Gumball 3000. Still trying to get back to my daily routine 3 weeks later! I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how many great friendships from around the world came out of that one week. Forget everything you've seen on the videos. I did not met a single pretentious person. Every single one (including the celebrities) were beyond nice to us and everyone else whether they were on the rally or not. The driving was incredible and was definitely the main focus of the rally even though their yearly movies and videos sent to highlight the parties and extracurricular activities. All I can say is that it is difficult to get a sense of what it's really about unless you actually do it. Our car turned out to be the sleeper of the rally. After making several friends, they told us that the pre-start buzz was that we wouldn't be able to keep up. That all went out the window after the 1st day when we blew by several SLA AMGs as well as other “faster” cars ;-) For the next several days everyone we talked to kept telling us how fast our car was and complemented our driving style. We tended to be team players; doing fast sprints when traffic cleared up, sharing time out front as well as in the middle and back of our group which stuck together after the 2nd day onwards, and also setting “picks” when traffic was becoming a problem so that the rest of our group could get by slower cars. It was great to meet some forum members at the finish line as well! I have decided to keep the wrap on the car for a while so if you see us on the road, please stop us and say hi. You can find all our photos and updates from the rally at http://www.facebook.com/teampuertorico
So, after sending the car from LA back to Florida to Renntech for a post rally tuneup and differential upgrade, we decided to visit the shop and were received by Hartmut, the owner, and shown around. They have an impressive shop to say the least. After being so blown away, we decided to go all out and finish the upgrade process to a complete Renntech R3. The highest level available for the SL55. Basically, in addition to what has already been done, they will be doing the differential, transmission, brakes, and long tube headers. The car should be ready in a couple weeks and then will be sent back home to Puerto Rico.
Since they are also doing the brakes, this means I will be removing the lightweight brake rotors from Evosport. You can see pictures of them on this thread. If you're interested in purchasing them, please let me know. They are still pretty much new and you can save some money off of buying new ones.
Cheers

Sounds like an awesome time and your RT SL represented well to say the least.
got a question for you, I run the RT "package plus" among other mods. All they ever say is larger crank pulley, Do you happen to know how many MMs it actually is?

Car is finally finished and on its way home! Here is the link to the pictures on the Renntech website. Car looks, sounds, and drives amazing! I know I'm biased but I think this is the baddest SL55 on the road.

As I mentioned, I have a lightly used set of Renntech stainless steel headers and Evosport lightweight brake rotors available-for-sale. Contact me if interested. Cheers!
