That looks like a pretty sweet kit.

Amazing kit, just what it should have been as standard IMO.

But still no wheels like the safety car

Ronald, your CLK man, when you gonna post pics and vids

ps, do you know Brabus has a kit in preparation for the SL55?

made into a 6.0 V8 Kompressor with 650BHP and 1050NM of Torque?

Any chance AMG will do that for you??

Why should AMG do that when they can offer something even better: An SL 65

Good point, BUT capped Torque I know beacuase of transmission and all that, but 650 BHP? Will they?

Plus, you have to admit, the growl of a large displacement V8, and an AMG/brabus one will blow the pants off any sound a V12 will make in IMHO.

Another thing, did you know one CLK-GTR has an actual 7.3 liter in the world with 720BHP? Naturally aspirated, will AMG make an SL73, sicne its a tried engine already, for a sum of money like the A32 Kompressor?

How was your hols?

Interesting that an alternative audio system will be offered. IMHO the Comand audio/Bose system is one of the very few weak features of the SL55. Poor FM reception even on main BBC channels in the UK. Not a particularly well focussed bass response and treble lacks smoothness at the top end.

Nothing like as good as the system I had custom fit in my SLK - Kenwood radio/CD, underfloor Mission amp and 4 door mounted speakers - total cost inc fitting around 1500 pounds.

Pictures of the new system are online:

No offense, but this should be standard for $120,000+ car. Maybe it adds more weight and that would make it a feasible option, but i doubt it.

Anybody know if AMG got the direction of the ventilated brakes right on this and if these things will be standard/options for the 2004 model?

edit...i was only talking about the stereo, which more than one person has complained about.

It can't be standard because many people don't like the aggressive look of the body kit. Furhermore, the bigger braking system requires 19" AMG wheels (many other 19" wheels don't fit). I won't get the braking system, becaus the biggest winter tires I can get for the SL are 18". Anyway, after working on my braking technique, I don't have any problems with the standard brakes - even on demanding racetracks.

To sum it up: If it would be standard, I would have never gotten an SL55 and I guess many other people would not have as well.

Love the looks of the F1 front bumper. It really sets it apart from the standard AMG Sport package and still looks elegant (not over the top as so many body kits a la Lorinser).

Ronald, do you know if the AMG body lowering kits can be purchased in the US, perhaps via a Mercedes dealer? I would like to buy one, but want to retain the warranty.

I don't know anything about the international availability of these products. My recommendation to you is to call up AMG and in case they tell you that it's not available: start complaining to MBUSA.

What are the sound system upgrades AMG is working on and will they retrofit a current SL55 without massive work?

Ronald; We can't see from the darkness of the side photo so let me ask you if the air intake on the spoiler works like it was designed to on the safety car. As I understand it, that extra air intake helps to cool the brakes on safety car. Is there an opening in the wheel well to do this or is the new spoiler just cosmetic?

Henry,

The side vents on the safety car spoiler are used for oil cooling and the same applies to this kit providing you buy the additional oil cooler.

The safety car has a large black carbon-fiber scoop under the front spoiler that provides additional air for brake cooling.

London lad and Ronald:
Thanks for clarification on what the side vents do. So, now please explain will it be necessary to get this front spoiler with the vents if I want to add the oil cooler. Where exactly does the oil cooler get attached if you have vents on both sides of the car.
I have a friend going over the pond to pick up his CLK 55 at the end of this month and I might want him to pick up these parts as I know it'll take forever to get them through MB dealer. Any estimate as to price in euro's?

You have to call AMG and ask yourself because I don't know if it is possible to get the oil cooler without the front spoiler. I'm not even sure if these parts have to be fitted directly at Affalterbach.

Once the pricing is final, we'll post all infos in the news section of our website.
