SL55 - Best 8.5x19 /10.0x19 tires to use
I just got a pair of Brabus V! rims for my SL55 and was wanting to know the best tires to use. I think I will be running 255 front and 295 rear. Is anyone running this configuration and what tires are you using?
Also,
I was looking at the Bridgetone RE960's but they don't have the 255 only the 245. Is this ok to use or would you pick another tire or go with the 050's.
I am just looking for some tire feedback.
Thanks,
Sherman

I just got some Hankook Ventus V12 tires from the tire rack. They had great reviews in Car and Driver. So far I realy like them and they are about 1/2 price of PS2s. I had PS2s on my Vette and I think that these are better. I went with 255/35-19 for the front and 285/30-19 for the rear. They do offer a 295/30-19 but my rear wheels are only 9.5" wide.

One of the good and essential features of the PS2's, is that they are available in sizes that can handle both the speed AND the weight of our cars. After I delimited mine, that was a critical issue for me. At the time PS2 was the only tire that had our load capacity.
So, if you like to go fast (and who doesn't), make sure that the load rating (as well as speed rating) are up to the task. As with everything, you get what you pay for. If you have a tire failure at high speed, it isn't worth saving a few bucks up front.

The load rating is expressed by a number followed by a 'Y', and is in parentheses. For example, the rears on my SL are rated (100Y), and the fronts are (98Y).
Essentially, the higher the number the more weight the tire can handle.

I looked at all the tire information before I bought the Hankook tires. What I found is that the speed rating and the weight rating was the same. The wear rating is better on the Hankook tires. I used to be a tire snob only buying the best brands. Then I learned that there are other fine tires that not only meet the performance of the better known brands but actualy perform better. After checking all the facts and reviews and asking other owners I know I made the best choice and saved some $$$.
So far the Hankook tires don't seem to flat spot like the PS2s did when sitting for a few days in the garage.
