Arrow Potentially buying SL55, few questions

Just sold my m6, and considering a sl55...

Is there any must have options I should be looking for, or do all sl55s pretty much come fully equipped? Any problems with the first years? Any major problems overall with these cars? Hardtop, suspension and such?

Thanks in advance for help guys... and if anyones selling a 03-05 sl55, at reasonable price, hit me up!

Car Whore
why would you go from an 06 M6 to an 03-04 SL55?
It's not an upgrade really... M6 had better tech.

sl55, range rover sport
The 2005+ year model has the upgraded navigation.
There are a number of options on all sl55s,panoroof,distronic,active seats with cooling, phone package, keyless go( a must have) ect.
Check for 2003 to 2005 specs on line to see the diffrences.
Also a proformance package was avalible from 2005,sl65 front bumper, uprated brakes, suspension mods,186 mph top speed and also wheel upgrade.
with any car with this type of technoligy,a warrenty is a MUST,it can get costly if you get a major problem.
When buying a sl55 have it inspected by a dealer,it may cost a few bucks but it is well worth it.
Check things like the brake rotors, about a grand to replace plus labor, also make sure there are no issues with the abc system.
Make sure there is plenty of rubber left on the tyres, and that the rims are straight and clean.
Good luck with your purchase, you will love the sl 55

happy motoring bc brit

Because for everyday driving the m6 sucked. Lacked the torque the SL55 has... Plus I want a hardtop vert

Much appriciated! I definantly will get it inspected, along side some warranty... not nessesarily looking at 03s.. anything along 03-06 at a reasonable price will suffice

Last year I turned in my '07 leased M6 and bought an '07 SL55. After 2 years I was ready to give it back. I grew really tired of the SMG transmission. The "automatic" mode is a complete waste, and though I generally liked the paddle shifting, at times it was really jerky in the lower gears. I have primarily been a manual transmission person, so having to shift all of the time wasn't the issue. I don't miss the M6 one bit.
Get the extended warranty.
Pano roof is an option I really like but thought it was unimportant before I got it. Same with keyless go. Voice command is nice, too.
Good luck in your search.

I am almost certain that there is.

I just pulled out the manual. The option is in speedometer display mode. (Canada only)

Try to find one with the AMG Performance Package. It adds side vents near the front bumper and bumps the electronic governor to 186 mph along with a bunch of other upgrades. It also adds a lot to the value of the car which will be nice when you sell it down the road.

This is def. a step up from the M6 imho, enjoy it!

Here is the page from my manual for the 03 SL55. Maybe the newer ones are different or maybe changes to US cars can be made through Star diagnostics.

There are some options but most SL55s are well loaded. The only thing that comes to mind is pano roof and keyless go. I don’t like the pano roof, but many people do. Keyless go on the other hand is an option that I personally love. I have it on my SL and my ML. The 030 performance package is awesome, but few and far between. If you can find an SL55 with 030 and they don’t want an arm and leg for it then go for it.

If I was in the market for a used SL55, I would give GFEARs car a serious look. The thing is absolutely gorgeous. You could fly to West Palm, pick up that sweet ride and have one hell of a nice trip back to Vancouver. All roads lead to Indy so you would have to stop by for lunch or dinner and say hi on your way through my part of the world.

Very nice. "E"s are sweet. I think you are going to enjoy that visceral kick in backside that comes from the torque monster. It's the last MB I am trying to get into our garage (wifey says no). I figure an SL, ML and E (55 or 63) is the perfect combo. post up some photos after you pickup that bad boy.
