Brakes and rotors

What should I expect to pay (ballpark) to replace both front and rear rotors/pads on an 05 SL55 - at the dealership?

I think you will be better off somewhere else. OEM rotors are very heavy. I think EVOsport has what you need. Check it out. Ask for pricings on the job at the stealers and compare, then make ur choice. Take your time and do it right.

Thanks Mf1..

I checked out evosport.

They look like great (kickass) rotors..but to be honest I was really hoping for something less expensive.

Anyone know how much using OEM rotors/pads would cost (roughly)?

You get what you pay for. How important is it for you to have great brakes in a 75 mph panic stop on the freeway? How much is the extra money going to matter over the entire span of your life? You spent a lot to buy your car so spend a little extra for great brakes.IMO

$134 is dealer list for front rotors, pads are $300
$97 for rear rotors, $100 for pads.

So you're looking a $868 in parts, plus some ancillaries like paste and a new sensor if you need it, so lets call it $900.

Labor will probably be about 4 hours at $115 or so an hour.

So you're looking at $1360+tax.

Now, parts.com will get your the same oem parts for $600 and if you're even remotely skilled, you can replace the parts yourself.

You can also save some money by going with aftermarket pads like akebonos or EBC.

The stock brakes will easily invoke ABS, making those fancy rotors (which won't really do anything for braking performance anyway) useless in a panic stop.

The stock brakes are easily good enough to be safe.
