Burned plastic smell
Earlier this week I realized my Car has lost a lot of power, it was still very fast, but something was wrong. After reading a bit on the forum, I encountered https://mbworld.org/forums/sl55-amg-...backfires.html. I had the exact same symptoms.
Left the car at the dealership and indeed my IC pump was bad, they replaced it and in the process found that I need new front brake pads. (@ 28K miles)
Yesterday I got the car back and it drives better than ever BUT when I got home I noticed a pretty strong burnet plastic smell, similar to what you get with electrical short. I drove it again now and the same thing happens, though much less noticeable.
Is it normal? I can't tell whether it's from the brakes, but it's certainly not burned tires b/c today I didn't spin even once. I think it's coming from the engine, seems to be Turbo related. But nothing is obvious by visual inspection, though most of the engine is covered by that C/F (??) engraved thing.
On a related note, what is the chrome pipe on the left side of the engine (driver side)? it had some condensation on it and I couldn't tell if it's the IC pump or related to AC.
The car runs great otherwise.
