Pulling Service Records??

Hi there guys. I am selling my sl55 and pretty much have it sold. I have all records already but the buyer requested I call MB and ask for all records of the vehicle since birth. I called the dealer I take it to and they told me that they could give me only the records that they have in their system but that they cannot retrieve all records of the car since MB dealers are privately owned and do not share information.

Is this true or are they pulling my chain? Is was able to get all records from BMW when I owned my X5 and 3 series.

Anyone know??

His mama. Traded y0 mama in because she was squeaking.
What records?

Service records (especially warranty work) should be accessible by ANY MB dealer, regardless of which MB dealer serviced/warrantee worked on the vehicle.

That's exactly what I was talking about. Service records (warranty work, repairs, oil changes, anything that was done at an MB dealer). So they should be able to pull those records?

As long as they were performed at a Mercedes Dealer, then I don't see why not. Now, I don't know about out of warranty stuff, but warranty work? Definitely.

What about things like Service A and B, and maintenance work like brakes, etc.

~shrug~. Can't help you there. I would imagine dealerships keep said records, but I honestly don't know if they report such things to the Mothership or if they share.

definitely share

you can get service records printed from any dealership. They just need the VIN.

the guy i bought my car from went to a different dealership than the one i got the records from. I just dont know if you need to know someone, if it costs anything, or if they give it to anyone who asks.

Also, it showed teh work done out of warranty. As long as it is was done at a dealer.

Not in Canada, due to privacy laws.

You have to be owner with car/VIN #, but then Mercedes-Benz Canada will only give you the dealer service records pertinent to the dealer from whom you requested the info, and who carried out the work.

If your car has been serviced at another MB dealer, you then have to go personally to each dealer and repeat the request, in order to obtain the whole service record for your car.

A bit of a pain, and something I still have to do for mine.

Well, it sounds like you have to know someone that overlooks the fact that they are giving you informaiton not just about you but of the previous owner as well. Both the dealer I take my car to and the dealer the prvious owner took the car to said the same thing. They couldn't give me information on services done in the previous owner's name.

Not exactly accurate....

THe only things you can get is what is on the Vehicle Master Inquiry. This is not supposed to be available for public consumption, but a co-operative dealer will run one for you. It is NOT a copy of the service record or Repair Order. It is just a summary of what has been done to the car under the MBUSA banner. Out of warranty repairs are generaly not listed; however, MB has just started to put a column on the MVI that says "Customer pay items". That can usually tell you wear or out of warranty items have been dealt with. Again, this information is not supposed to be for public consumption, but you can sometimes get a cooperative service or parts guy to help you.
You can get used to this. It is this way with most manufacturers now. These records are considered proprietary to the previous owner, and not available for sharing. Just another reason to keep every receipt.
