Two main reasons: the extra weight of the roof mechanism and the extra weight for chassis reinforcement...MB went to great lengths to make a very stiff roaster chassis...without spending a huge fortune for exotic materials...the weight is the trade off

it might be heavy, but it is very light on its feet!! Besides, I feel alot safer being in a rocket built like a vault.
