SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: I GOT NEW WHEELS...
#3
Thanks. I took the picture with my phone - so it looks like crap. The wheels have a real clean look and the drop looks just about right. Now I have to clean up the calipers...

Vossen VF061 which are their 3 pc forged line. 20x9 and 20x11. Wheels are brushed centers with chrome lips. Tires are Toyo Proxes 4 255/30/20 and 295/25/20.
Car has been lowered using the adjustable links. The best way to describe the lowering is that the new highest ride height (2 lights) is about what the original lowest (no lights) was.
Car does not rub at any height. When the car is all the way down (no lights) the ride is pretty harsh, but the car looks sick. I usually drive the car in the middle position (1 light) which has a decent ride and still has a nice drop to it.
Once the sun comes out here I will try and grab some pictures for my camera. I am very pleased with the look. Thanks for Wheel Tec in Tampa for their help!!!!

The vendor was pretty clear that the 295 was the proper size and I was comcerned about any rubbing issues. Also, I was told that there was limited choice in terms of brands with the proper sizing so, despite all the input from the forum I have the 295... may look for 305 on the next set of rubber.

All of the vendors I spoke to during my search, including Vossen Forged, stated that a 305/25/20 was the proper size on an 11" rear.
Do your tires look a bit stretched out back? Meaning, is the sidewall vertical or does it angle back towards the center of the wheel.
Either way, I'm sure it's fine as many people do run a 295. And they definitely look better on your SL than they did in my head.
Good choice.

That is high praise and I appreacite it!![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The tires are a bit stretched which is a look that I am not a big fan of, but it is growing on me and given the expected tire life... I can always go back and try to 305s next.

Sounds like there is a story there...
I agree the "stretch" on the tire takes a little getting used to the look. I am guessing that the 305 would be been a perfect fit, but there really seemed to be very little in the way of tire choices. Also, the stretch seems to be less of an issue in that the wheels fit very nicely. I was in fact concerned originally that the 11s for the rear would stick out (being that most people here seem to run 10.5s) but they fit just right. Since I have never run the Toyos, I figured I would give them a try. Already I can tell you that they have excellent traction in the rain being that we are getting totally drenched here in SW FL

The wheels look great! 20s and a drop really makes the SL look sweet. Maybe some day after I have moved away from the land of the giant pothole, I can toss the stockers and get some nice wheels.

305 is the measured or ideal fitment on an 11" rim, likewie 295 is the optimal fitment on a 10.5 " wheel, what they refer to as ideal fitment of measured fitment.
However this said an 11" rim can accomodate 295 wheels on the narrow side of fitment range just like a 10.5" rim can accomodate a 305 tire on the wider side of it's range. Keep in mind all tires are sized different...meaning a 305 from Perelli can be the same width as a 295 from Michelin for example. Hence the reason for creating a range of suitable fitments on the technical specifications for the rim bead.
