Extended Warranty Question

If I buy a used SL55 from auction (or private party) that has no warranty, can I go out and purchase an extended warranty for it? If there a certain amount of years that nobody will warranty it (i.e. 2003 vs 2005) and are there disqualifiers (i.e. prior accident, high miles, etc)? Confused

Use the "search" tool. There's lots of discussion on extended warranties. The best (Michael from Chrysler) has put MB warranties on hold.

I saw your post from last month but could not find answers to my questions. Thanks.

I just bought Direct Buy Warranty for 5 years and addition 130,000 miles to my current mileage for $3199,00 this Monday. I haven't got the paperwork yet but it's a bumper-to-bumper warranty with no deductible and should work at any dealership. I double checked with them and they said it'll cover the supercharger and the ABC suspension. After I get the paperwork and take it to a dealer for some warranty work I'll post the result, but for now I think it's a pretty good deal.

Wow that is a good deal if there is no hassle when you need work done. Did you have to obtain an inspection prior to obtaining coverage? Is it transferrable when you sell the car?

No inspection needed but the warranty will start 30 days after the purchase so I'm still praying nothing goes wrong until the end of September. I was told I can transfer the warranty to anyone or even cancel it for a full refund anytime during the 5 years.

Be careful with Direct Buy Warranty... lots of complaints out there stating that the company does not cover anything once something goes wrong. For example here (ignore the June 14 comments, probably same person within the company posting + reviews on the same day) http://complaintwire.org/Complaint.a...GgDOdgjMRAeSZw and herehttp://www.my3cents.com/showReview.cgi?id=81249 . Just google "direct buy warranty scam" and "direct buy warranty complaints". I do that often before before purchasing items.

The second link you have is for Warranty Direct not Direct Buy Warranty. I'm going to my dealer tomorrow to pick up my new car so I'll ask them about Direct Buy Warranty and see how they think about it. Worst case I'll get a full refund.

The second link is misplaced under Warranty Direct - the title of the post is "Direct Buy Warranty SCAM - No service proivded, they simply take your money!!!!!"

Just looking out for you... let me know what the dealer says. I'm searching for a white SL55 and will likely need to purchase an aftermarket warranty as well.

I've also read bad reviews about Direct Buy Warranty.

I currently hold a Fidelity Warranty - Platinum level w/ 100$ deductible. I've never been denied repair of anything yet.

What was the cost/terms of your Fidelity Warranty?

Cost is dependent upon vehicle year/miles and if there's an existing warranty. They have different level of coverage with different deductibles.

Just go to their website and get a quote. It's free and takes 5 minutes.

I looked at the web site and started to fill out the questionaire. When it asks for model there is no "SL55" choice.

Ahhhh, gotcha.

Well, I guess add Fidelity to the ever growing list of warranty companies that will no longer write service contracts for older AMGs.

I'm so glad my car has it until 2013 or 82K miles. It's already paid for itself, and my car has been mostly trouble free. It's just little things like the main pump for the top....that would've cost me 2 grand.

People really need to start looking at warranties before they pull the trigger on these 2003-2005 SLs. Looks like more and more warranty companies are getting out of the AMG game.

I have a 2007 SL55, out of factory warranty 2/1/11. It has 9000 miles on it so I had been casually shopping warranties at the beginning of the summer. The Chrysler one through Michael Case was my first choice, no need to buy until I was close to out of factory warranty, then they stopped writing them. Checked out other warranties and many would not cover the SL55 at all. Alot of warranty groups that would cover it had policies that did not meet my needs. I purchased a Fidelity, top level warranty, $100 deductible, 7/70000 mile warranty for about $4400. I called several MB dealers at random across the country and asked them about their experience with Fidelity and they were all very positive. I never buy extended warranties on any product, but this is one purchase I feel is worth the expense based on risk. Private mail me and I would happy to let you know who I purchased through, good luck. The SL55 is an amazing car, I have had 6 vettes in the past, the SL is on a different level, having said that the vette is a fantastic car.

Chrysler still isn't writing these policies and Mercury didn't offer a policy on mine. I'm going to look into Fidelity next. Andy, any updates with Direct Buy?

Do most avoid the M-B extended warranty because of cost?

I'm getting the following quote for Fidelity Platinum Coverage:

24/24000 $4,000
36/36000 $5100
48/48000 $6875

I'm going to check with my service guy at the dealer to see what experience he's had with these guys.

I bought one when I purchased the car new in '04, and am glad that I did. 3 extra years for $3200. Reckon I am better than break-even. No major problems, but the little things do add up.

I recently received this E-mail from Costco

is this on a car that is already warrantied or has just expired? Because its tough to get a warranty on any older AMG who's warranty has long expired.

And Are any of you other guys gettign warranties for older AMG's out of warranty. I ask becaue Many companies wont touch out-of-warranty AMG's. A few companies only offer minimal coverage. An 03 SL55 with 42K for example (that I have interest in) will be covered by Easycare but they wont give you their premium coverage on out of warranty AMG's. In fact, what they offer wont cover the retractable top, navigation and too many other things tha can go wrong. Thats too risky for me.

However, I do know a broker offerering 2 A Rated companies who will cover an 03 SL55. One is an exclusionary contract but exclusionaries are big bucks for the AMG's so the one for the 03 SL55 is $4900 for 3 years/36K. He offers a non exclusionary for the same car for $3900 but no navigation isnt covered. But after reading the contrcat, its not abad warranty, 3900 most other things including anything tha goes wro w te SC, Retractabl top etc

That's why i prefer exclusionary - the language is clear on what's NOT covered rather than telling you what IS COVERED. With The latter, you have to practically be a mechnaic to know the risks. But exclusionaries are not easy and very expensive if you find one. If anyone needs the brokers number who sent me 2 quotes on the 03 SL55 let me know
