Hi guys,

I am somewhat knowledgeable about the E55 W211 since I currently own one. However, I don't know much about the SL55 chasis and
I'm currently in the market for a SL55. What are the advantages/disadvantages about the older year (2003-04 and 2005 and newer)? I know that the NAV is different on the 05+. I also heard that there are a lot of problems with the suspension on the 03. Also, how much is a 05+ runs for? Please chime in.......

lights and cosmetic are slight change from 03 to 05.

Nothing really wrong with an 03 at all..but in general car talk its a first year model so some buyers like to wait until the 2nd year of a Model lineup..

As with the W211 go with the latest model in your budget or the right choice with warranty, miles, mods ( if wanted) , etc and youll be fine.

A bigger throttle body also got added somewhere along the way but I don't recall which year.

Believe power also went up from 493 horses to 508, and torque from 516 lb-ft to 535...

It was 2006 and the horsepower did increase due to the throttle body and minor supercharger tweaks. A little known fact is that some of the early 2003's also had the larger throttle bodies that were subsequently replaced with the smaller TB's until the 2006 model year. Also the SC clutch pack was changed in 2006 not in '05.

I didnt know the power increases on the 06. I was under the assumption that it is still 493. Is this info been confirmed?

For what it is worth, 03 was the first year for the R230 in the U.S. O2 was the first year in Europe so MB did have a bit of time to work out a few bugs.

What's the big difference between ABC and Airmatic? Even the 2003-2004 cars I see say "ABC" on the suspension button.

Didn't the 2003 also have a horrible "cat ****" order problem? Or was that just the designo cars?
