Hey guys and gals, this is my third Mercedes, first used one and first AMG. I'm getting the car from Florida and wanted to know more about these fine vehicles. Any tips, tricks, and things to look out for would be helpful. Anything I should do as soon as I receive it? I can't wait to drive this vehicle and feel the extraordinary power!!!!! Thanks.... S

Figure out if your IC pump is working. If it runs strong for extended periods of boost then you are good. If power only lasts for a short time, then it's new pump time.

Expect to have the ownership costs of a Ferrari. In a year you will realize that you could have driven a Modena for the amount of money you will in all likelihood spend to keep the car on the road. The above comes strictly based on personal experience.

I think it all depends on the car, history and how well it was cared for. I have had my '03 since new. It is well cared for, and serviced (actually over serviced), and aside from an IC pump, an A/C compressor and 4 tire pressure sensors, the car has been bullet proof. Not bad for 8 years.

The advice I give to anyone looking at a used SL55, Ferrari, or anything for that matter, is buy the best car you can afford (ie. spend a few more bucks for a quality piece), go through the records, see if it has been problematic? Has the car been cared for and serviced? And then have it inspected by an expert. I have been buying cars, sight unseen, for 20+ years. Following these simple things has always resulted in cars that remain on the road and put a smile on my face, rather than running up bills at the shop.
