Did you get tank replaced?
What about the tank. As I understand it MB is saying it is the tank design that is the problem. My dealearship was told this and several on this board have reported the same response

Don't know if this is of any help, but I just had a noise problem fixed.
My symptoms:
With the top up, radio and ventilation off or turned down, I heard a consistent noise when standing (when driving, the engine/exhaust covered any noise anyway). It wasn't loud and didn't really bother me as I always listen to music and have the top down.
It was a gargling noise (sorry, I can't think of a better description
) that came from the rear, trunk area and thought it was more prevalent on the passenger side.
Reading the posts I assumed that it was the much discussed fuel pump/gas tank issue and brought it in for service.
They came back and said it was the amplifier for the stereo, which made absolutely no sense to me as the noise did not resemble anything like a humming sound or white noise. They asked if it's Ok to replace it and I agreed even though I wasn't crazy about the thought of them taking the car apart for what I believed to be a futile effort.
BUT, I just picked up the car yesterday and the noise is gone. Not just less but the total absense of any noise![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Hope this helps, at least it might be another source to investigate fi you experience any noise issues...

2006 SL55 with 030 Performance Package
My audio cuts out once in a while for 10 to 30 seconds and comes back, and this happens with cd or radio.
I also have the sound behind the seat, I wonder if the amp might be the problem
My neighbors audio cuts out the same way in his SL55.
I do think the gas tank is part of the problem because it does not make the sound when the car is on empty only half to full tank.
Who knows?

sl 55
i had this problem in the los angeles area and didn't accept delivery till they changed the gas tank. after that the noise has been gone and never returned. my dealer told me that the owner had the same noise and i said i didn't care. i just think mercedes would rather not replace every sl55 gas tank. mine is an o3.

What you are describing is typical of what happens if I have a message waiting on the cell phone in my SL55. I think what is going on is that the sound from the car stereo system is muted during the time the message "beep" from the phone is being processed. Problem is, the Command system doesn't reproduce the beep; all you get is silence during the "beep" period. If I pick up my cell phone messages, the problem goes away. A friend with a CL600 had the same problem; same fix worked.

2003 CL55
I have the same problem of the stereo cutting out (or CD) and it usually takes place within the first 15 minutes of me starting the car. (I have a '03 CL55).
I too thought it was the phone with a voicemail but the cutting out happens even when I dont have my phone connected.
Its very odd and happens at various times with no real reason.
Are others having this problem as well?

Clicking noise
I have driven five SL's that have the clicking noise. My first, was an early production 2003. My dealer replaced the gas tank but the clicking noise was still there. He wanted to replace the gas tank in my SL55 but I refused. My 2004 SL500 does not seem to have it.

They all click
I have owned two SL500's, one SL55 and driven another SL500 and an SL600 and they all had the clicking sound except for my most recent SL500.
