Advice on Updating Comand System & Navigation
Hello fellow forum members. I recently purchased a 2007 sl 55 AMG. Everything works great except the navigation system. What happens is that it places me about 150 miles out west in the ocean somewhere and when I try to hit the "setting" option on the NAV menu, it says "Navigation is not active." I have the original 07 disc in it.
The dealer tells me I need to purchase a new map CD, but then I have read elsewhere I need to update the comand system as well.
Anyone have any advice on what I should so. If I bought the new MAP DVD does that include the comand upgrade too, or is this done only by the dealer, and would that even explain my problem.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I don't think I see any satelites on the bottom of the display but I am not sure what they should look like, so maybe it is there.
I know this is probably a moot issue, since everyone uses their phone for navigation, but what the hell, I guess its still convenient to have it.

I have an '07 as well, and its Command is far inferior to my wife's '09 ML320.
I recently updated my disc, but there really isn't much improvement.
I believe that others have changed out the entire Command, but I suspect it's pretty pricey.

E class, 09 SL65 AMG and 2 Harleys
The Navigation function is in the dark ages compared to what is available on your smart phone. I would save your money and just buy a car dock placing it on the windshield when you need it and stowing it in the seat compartment when not in use. Integration would be nice, but MB has always lagged the industry in this area.
