SL600 interior swap with an SL55

Per the advice of the creative folks on this board, I am now offering my swap on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=220864073740

I'd love to find someone in AZ or CA who has a 2003 or 2004 SL55 with aluminum or black interior trim that is willing to swap

-Steering Wheel
-Shift knob
-Center console section with ash tray
-Driver and passenger door trim

My car is keyless go, so you must have a keyless go knob.

My car does not have steering wheel shifter buttons, so you will lose this feature if you currently have steering wheel shifter buttons.

good luck man but i really wouldnt go with the aluminum
the carbon or piano black would really set it off imho
i know every1 has different taste but black on black is a win
plus considering how clean your car looks...the piano black

Good luck with that!
Like someone would prefer wood..?
Quite honest, I think it would be easier to sell a 100 dollar bill for 150.

But hey, why don't you simply paint it in "high gloss piano black"..?
I've done it several times. Steering wheel too.
It costs you just about nothing, and it would look great with your colour combo!

I'm thinking you are right. If I had a silver on black SL, then the aluminum would be pure win. With my car being black on black, I think I can still pull off the aluminum but the carbon or piano black would probably suit the car best.

I actually came across quite a few SL55 owners who didn't like the aluminum trim and told me they would have preferred wood when I was shopping for SL55/SL600's. I know one seller told me he thought the aluminum looked "cheap". Since this is an enthusiasts form, most of us are up on the "latest fashions" in auto styling and thus probably prefer Carbon Fiber and aluminum trim. That said, there are a ton of "older" SL owners who seem to prefer the wood look.

If I can get a swap done on my terms...great. If not, I will probably just have the trim painted black like you suggest. I also have a spare steering wheel I picked up off eBay that I may have re-wrapped.

I think you will have better luck if you offer the swap without the steering wheel as your comments on the steering wheel swap in the auction pretty much kill it for most SL55 owners considering this. Why would anyone give up there steering wheel shift buttons? They would have to be half stupid.

Better options....

1. Offer the swap with no steering wheel and have yours redone by one of the vendors on the forum.

2. Buy an MP Designs Sport wheel for your car with no shift buttons as that is correct to your car. In this case I would still keep your wheel as it is borderline useless in an SL55.

3. If you still insist on having an SL55 wheels with shift buttons, post a WTB ad here as there are plenty of people that have these collecting dust after getting a CLK63 or MP Designs wheel.

Just a few thoughts that might hep your success and make the outcome better.

Good luck!

I would love to trade my aluminum trim for wood. But it MUST be the dark wood that you rarely, if ever, see on a 2003-2004 SL. I just can't go for the "orangey" wood that was popular during those years.

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
You could have DCT recover everything with carbon fiber or maybe some different wood or paint some of it gloss black

There was no piano black trim on MY 03 or 04. I think it came with MY 06 (which makes it incomaptible to your interior, as the 06 SLs have the updated COMAND).

I have the aluminium trim on my SL55 and I really don't know why they didn't just make it look like brushed aluminium, but gave it that strange roughened style. But I got used to it over the yrs... and even started to defend it against the Audi mob (as nowadays every simple AUDI A5 comes with that brushed aluminium trim).

I really can see why you want to get rid of that burlwood trim... Just purchased a ML for the family that has that wood thing going on. But as everything else on that car was just great..., I picked it up anyway. Just ordered the aluminium styled trim for my ML yesterday!

2003 SL55 AMG trim

Hi, Don't know where you stand on this, but I am in the process of changing out the aluminium AMG etched trim from my 2003 SL55 AMG. I will have the center console & 2 door trim pieces available. The car has the plain black wheel & shifter (without keyless go) & I do not want to switch out of them. Let me know if you would like to discuss purchasing the 3 pieces available. Thanks!
