how many miles is "delivery miles" considered?

I would like to ask everyone who has purchased a new SL, how many miles were registered on the odometer at the time of pickup!
My car just got off the truck today, and my sales rep told me there were 17 miles on the odometer. This is my first Mercedes. I have previously owned 5 BMWs (all of them new cars) and the mileage on the odometer ranged from 2-7 miles. 17 miles seems excessive, or maybe it is the norm with MB. Can anyone shed some light? I'd rather not think that someone had a little fun at the VPC

All AMG's in every model I have ever seen come off the truck have at least 10-14 miles on them.

I'd say less than 100. Maybe less than 50. Does it really make a difference? M5 had I think 48, but he also drove it ~30 miles to my house.

Dan,
I guess not. It's just the obsessed side of me that's making a bigger issue out of it. So, what' up?? I have not heard from you in a while. You still have the Z8? Are you getting an SL?? Keep in touch man!

I believe the odometer can be reset to 0 if the current recorded mileage is less than (I think) 50 miles. They may have uncovered a problem during the pre-delivery inspection which needed rectification and a brief road test to verify. 17 miles is not a lot and the car may also have been one picked out for road testing at the plant - not every Mercedes is road tested before leaving the plant.

I wouldn't worry about it!!

demo benz
lets get real. no one from the VPC or any other car handler has the ability to joy ride these cars. the cars are driven from the factory to the truck, to the dock(in germany),on the ship,USA dock(VPC),to the truck,to the dealer. it needs to filled with gas and an honest pre-delivery inspection should be at least a test drive of 5-10 miles.to check for pulling, acceleration ect.. i would rather have a car that was correctly prepped than a car with 2 miles on it . legally the odometer cannot be set back to 0.anywhere between 15-50 miles is normal ..sometimes benz will randomly road test a car off the assembly line,it would come with a note glued to the windshield explaining the extra miles, sometimes over 100 miles..

Actually you are right. Via the DAS laptop, Mercedes can Zero the odometer once. The reset is stored in a memory however that can be pulled up via DAS.

From Mustard's experience of having his cars's cluster replaced, it looks like the mileage is stored in at least two locations, so that if one component is replaced, it can obtain the correct mileage from the other across the network.

BlueSL is correct as well. On 2002+ vehicles the mileage is stored in the Cluster as well as in the Electronic Ignition module.

LOL.. No. The reset is limited to a specific max. odometer reading. I would image 60,000 is approx. 59,900 above that.
