SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Opinions on new tyre sizes - Front 245/40/19 & Rear 275/35/19 - SL55 - Help
Right my new CLS wheels have arrived and have been painted in Anthracite (dark grey), look fab
I need to order the new tyres, need some help please. Bare in mind I will be adding smaller pulley / new heat exchanger / manifold etc so car will be running more than stock HP.
I am currently running 18" turbines with Front 255/35/18 & Rear 285/35/18, stock sizes.
I now have 19" rims, in order to retain some comfort for our crappy UK roads I am considering going down a profile and down a tire size for the new 19" CLS rims, considering:
Front 245/40/19 & Rear 275/35/19, as opposed to the stock size of Front 255/35/19 & Rear 285/30/19.
I want to know what you guys think re going down a profile and down a tyre width, am I going to have traction issues or is the actual difference very marginal?
Or am I really better to get larger sizes?
Let me know your thoughts :-)

You put in the stock size and the new size. The calculator warns you if your proposed tyres are putting a strain on the brake system. The tech info is good to reset Comand for the new tyre size so your mileage and speed indicators as well, I believe, the ESP and other safety systems are in synch. You can find out about the reset by searching on the forum as the sequence seems to vary. The calculator also gives you info about which tyres are available but whether you can get the same ranges in the UK I do not knoW. Depending on where you are in the UK you might want to consider winter tyres for your stock rims. Having driven in Scotland in the winter the snow and slush gets very greasy. Friends with range rovers with summer treads were having problems. I'll be there with AMG for Christmas through New Years and we are looking forward to seeing our old friends!
