Thanks for sharing.
The front is horrid, rear is nice.

For some reason, I like it better with the top up...which is not a good thing for an SL. E55Dimon...I'm actually the opposite...I can live with the front if I was always looking at it with a 3/4 view (front view is less appealing) but the rear is not doing it for me...maybe its the tail lights.

I think I'll keep my 2006...still think the lines flow so much better.

PS Those A/C vents are just weird looking to me. I'd probably black them out if I ever had the inclination to get one...just too prominent in the interior.

Vents in the new sl

It's because they are going for a retro look, the same as in old mercedes cars.

The same goes for the rest of the dashboard.

They probably going in the right direction, because the people going to buy this car new is mostly older people remembering the good old days

This seems to be a car that will look much better in real life than in pictures...that being said, it still looks very high tech and retro at the same time, very interesting....wonder if AMG will come out with a new direct-injected 12 cylinder engine to sit at the top of the model line-up above the SL 63 .....?

You're right, now that I really look at the pictures again, the all new SL really does look quite good....very high tech, dynamic, muscular, elegant, chic, powerful, expensive looking, and still hints of retro....all at the same time....can't wait to see the official pics of the all new SL 63 AMG (isn't it supposed to be an uprated version of the new 5.5 liter DI twin turbo V-8 engine, around 600 to 630 horsepower maybe? I'm not sure at all....)..... the SL 63 should look insane.... It looks like the standard SL 550 sport package we're seeing in these above pics are 20 inch rims it seems... so I hope Benz offers 21 inch AMG rims for the first time ever....

P.S. - the 2009 model SL 63 with the 518 horspower NA V-8 and the 7-speed wet-clutch transmission hit zero to 60 MPH in 3.9 seconds in a couple of the auto magazines.....so therefore:
The all new SL 63, if it does indeed have a 600+ horsepower 5.5 liter DI twin turbo V-8 (most likely) with the newly updated 7 speed wet clutch transmission, and the reduction of over 400 lbs in weight (isn't that whats been said?), and better aerodynamics and software upgrades and newly updated Michelin pilot super sport rubber....should mean 0 to 60 in the low 3's? The new CLS 63 performance package is said to hit it in 3.7 seconds no problem, so since this all new SL will be lighter and more powerful than the CLS, and with wider rubber, and most likely an AMG designed LSD, then the low 3's seems entirely plausible.....we'll just have to wait and see.....

P.S. #2: I'm sure we all are hoping AMG comes out with a 12 cylinder version of this new 5.5 liter DI bi-turbo engine....if they added 4 more cylinders to it, it could be anywhere between 6.5 liters to 7.5 liters, and with larger turbo's it could easily be an 800+ horsepower engine if they wanted it to be....I hope they do it......

0 to 60

You're going to need 4 wheel drive to get under 3.5 seconds.

No chance with a 2 wheel drive car, no matter what.

I think it looks just OK right now, but I find almost all of the new MB models tend to look better to me after time. I am even starting to like the w212 now.

I hope ABC did not give out in the middle of nowhere on that lady in the pic. )))) Benz design is "ok" - possibly because I was looking at aston martin lately.

I see the internal make up as a big step forward and innovative on many levels. However, the styling has so much more to be desired. In a word bland comes to mind. The SLS is sexy. This I would not even call cute. More like a big SLK.

Whats with mercedes and these 'big change' facelifts haha (Aluminum body on the new SL) My 2012 C class is a facelift with 2000 new parts. This seems like a similar idea. I Like the look, and think in person it will be great. I remember not liking the new C coupe until recently. This car will probably grow on us... its more for older people though, its meant to look classy not dangerous... but thats what the AMG version is for anyways!

Haha, was thinking the same thing. There should be a sub-title in red "ABC warning, proceed to shop." "watch were you step with those heals"

"proceed to shop" )))) Seriously, C. Schiffer (at least I think that's her) looks stuck and uncomfortable standing on that hay in high heels with two bags loaded with "shop loot" ))

2008 MB CL600. 2020 MB E300 de. 1987 BMW M535i.
It's too bad how MB sometimes are making the back ends (boot lids) sloop downwards nowadays... Especially in the pic with the girl with the high heels!
That doesn't make for an impressive look from behind, at all. Quite the opposite!

Take the CLS for instance! Just look at that freakin' thing!!! Like a dog, bending over in the woods, taking a s**t!
Totally narrow, and downwards leaning!
I laughed for an hour the first time I saw one in reality, and just couldn't believe it!

This new SL's back end is luckily not as bad as the CLS's, but half way there...
You can sence they are thinking towards carefully trying to resemble a "high speed bicycle helmet", with those aerodynamic back ends thing going...
And that sure goes for the girly SLK too, as already been stated...

That's a stupid assumption, alot of cars on street tires will get under 3.5 secs let alone radials. The fastest E55 which was on radials got a sub 3 sec 0-60.

I read your post this morning and chuckled, then fed my three Greyhounds and sent them out for their morning dump and could not stop laughing. Maybe I should snap a shot of the hounds dumping and post it up for a comparo with the new SL rear.

the reason the picture of the SL 550 with the woman in it looks weird is because it looks like a scan from a mercedes brochure, so it got scanned while the two sides of the brochure book were curved....if it was just one continuous large picture and then got scanned that way it would've looked better most likely....

I don't like it.

It just looks too much of a bigger SLK, which IMO is going in the wrong direction

They have been unable to improve upon the 2006 looks. Don't like this new one AT ALL.

Well, could you name a lot of cars on street tires going under 3.5 seconds?

I would be very impressed if you could name, say five or six cars WITHOUT radials.
