Newb - Just Purchased '03 SL55
Hello from West Texas!
Just purchased a 2003 SL55. I'm new to MB's. I've always wanted one, but tended to stay with US sports cars. The latest of which was a 675hp Shelby GT500 Show Car (sold to get the SL).
I bought the car from an older gentlemen whose son had recently passed away. Unfortunately he did not know the history of the car other than it was purchased used by his son in 2005 in Lubbock, TX.
The car needs some TLC, but seems to run great and I believe I purchased it for a very reasonable price. It appears to have some aftermarket upgrades...The exhaust says Renntech as do the rims. 50k miles on the clock.
I'm guessing I probably need to have it serviced at the dealer initially, would everyone agree? Unfortunately here in West Texas, I have two choices...Alderson MB in Midland or Alderson in Lubbock (both of which are an 80 mile drive one way). Since the car was purchased in Lubbock, that is where I was planning on taking it.
I'll be trolling around the forums trying to pick-up information, but if anyone has any thoughts on items I need to address initially, please send them my way. Looking forward to visiting with the group.

Congrats, wow color combo! Do some research on dealers in your area or find a good shop that specializes on European/MB vehicles. Try and find locals that own an SL, E55, CL/CLS55, great way to find an indy shop. Most dealers will attempt to rape you, they cant help it. An experienced MB tech can throw it on a lift and look for common issues along with checking codes with Star. Did the father give you any paperwork on the car?
You can always take some pictures of the exhaust, crank pulley, of the engine and most here can tell if you have a pulley, stock/aftermarket intake, headers, etc. etc..

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
Put a new set of pilot super sports on and it seems drive much better. I went ahead and made an appointment at the dealer. None of the locals are up on MBs. I'm a bit nervous, but it's better than running into a serious problem while on the road.
The wife has taken a keen liking to the car. May not be mine much longer
Anyone have any tips on disabling the front passenger airbag? My six year old wants to go for a ride.
