SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Where to buy the correct NEWER style Mirror Covers for SL55?

I got mine from 55tech last summer, Had my buddy at the body shop paint them to match my car & install was a breeze (I even did it myself)! The wiring issue must be with the puddle/courtesy light which I think is retarded anyway so I didn't even hook it up but it should be really easy to just splice it & the signal light was a very easy plug & play... they look great & the work great

I was able to negotiate a better price with them... I would email them first.

yes those are the correct ones, I got the ones in cf and they are def worth tthe money, just be careful taking off the mirror glass when you take apart the mirror and install, grab the two corners of the mirror and be careful as the mirror is held on by little plastic tabs
#56
maybe you can glue back on the plastic tab? if not i duno how much the mirror would cost from the stealer but could be a lot. I also noticed that my driver side mirror and passenger side mirror were a little different, one is thicker and has more of a bezel around it, not sure, maybe one was replaced before or maybe thats how its supposed to be but I only noticed it when I had both mirrors removed

That is the way they are supposed to be... the drivers side is auto dimming & the passenger side is not. I didn't realize that until I broke it because the drivers side popped right off so being over confident I went right after the passenger side not realizing it was thinner & not as stout! I broke the glass not the plastic BUT what I broke was the cheapo (bought replacement @ parts.com for like $75) compared to the drivers side... you DO NOT want to break drivers side because it cost an arm & leg

Yup... I almost fixed it myself but didn't feel like screwing around trying to cut the glass... drivers side @ the stealership is $432 or you can get it @ parts.com for $260... DON'T BREAK IT

How did you guys go about taking apart the stock side view plastics apart from the base? I took out the mirror, unscrewed everything, and it seems like they do not want to separate from the base.

Look at your new ones... the OEM work the same way. It has been a while but I think the main point to concentrate on is the pivot point... fold the mirror housing in so that you can access where the two parts come together & then push in on that tab.
But I did mine while everything was still attached to the car

so after you know for a fact they are the correct mirrors, you need to pivot the mirrors inward and the housing will come off. The inside mirror/glass needs to be removed obviously, then a little playing around with it and you should find the spot that works., Also for the turn signals, you will have to cut the + and - to splice into the new mirrors, just test it to make sure you get them right before you put everything back together

I took off my housing and then compared it to the new ones I purchased to find out that they are different. I need the one Ronnie took a picture of in the first page of this thread, which ironically turned out to be the wrong ones for him.

my car is a 2004 and i got my cf ones off ebay from gaugetuner, I first got the wrong ones too, I ordered the 2002-2004 pre 2005 mirrors, then shipped them back and got the 2005-2007 ones and they turned out to be spot on, very strange but turned out perfect in the long run and am very pleased with them

Did they exchange it even though you had painted it? I scuffed mine with a scotch pad to get it ready to primer.

I have an extra set with bad lights in them... if the internal lights are the same you can just swap them with the ones you have then you will be good & avoid what Ronnie went through. PM me with an offer... I was going to keep for that just in case moment but I guess I can help a brotha out instead

lol then I would still have an extra set of mirrors that I don't need. I appreciate the offer, but I think I'll just pay the $50 for the shipping back and forth and have them exchanged.

Cool... I thought you scuffed them so you couldn't return? I wasn't planning on selling them anyway but I was willing to if it helped you out. I hope it works out & if you need help just
