That looks great! Can't wait to do to the same to mine. Did you bake your headlights in the oven or heat gun them around the seals to open it?

positive it is needed. it is the ecu/ballast/igniter for the hid. without it you would only have high beams.

it fits into the connector on the bottom of the headlight.

you can find them used for the c series for under $100 each. if you were to buy new for the 2009+ sl63, $500+ each!

it was like 2010-2012 c class. they are all shaped pretty different, so it isn't hard to look at pics above and see if you are picking the right ones. not needed if you are running aftermarket, but, at $100 each or less, i am betting the factory stuff would work better than anything aftermarket for that price.

Spirit or OZ any advice on how to take apart the plastic piece from the actual lens? I took off every screw and somehow it still won't come off.

Taking apart the plastic from the lens was the most painstaking part! Next up is to sand/primer

lol yeah the headlight has many patterns in it so it's easier to configure a unique paint scheme for it. Some people paint the whole thing black, some paint everything black but the projector bezels, some people leave the turn signal housing chrome, etc.. It would be pretty cool just overlaying everything inside with carbon fiber, but with the weird shapes of the pieces, it would be tough other than molding it and popping a new one out of CF.

anyone ever figure out what the inner light is supposed to do? only thing i can think of is to light the area to the sides, which is............retarded. really hard to hit stuff that is at an immediate right angle to the car.

for anyone looking for just the 3" lenses by themselves, i found a source for cheap!!

http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=136

i purchased a set of the ones op has and they emailed saying they were out of stock. but, they have now doubled in price literally over might to $120-160!! the ones above are $40 and is lens only.
just ordered and will reply with details of fitment. looking at the lights, i think a 3" will be a direct fit.

I was gonna ask the same thing, since these are just lenses, what actually holds them in place?

there is a small gap between the outer shroud that pops on, and the plastic piece behind it. i am guesstimating that the lens lip will fit right in there. if not, i just tossed away $50. hahaha. i'm sure i can make it work though.

i have some single red leds on the way. plus an led light strip. i plan to use the red led to illuminate behind each lens, then run a white 10" strip up the inside upper portion of the headlight. my car should look super pissed off all the time, lol. 2 red eyeballs and a white slanted eyebrow. i will switch the red leds on a relay that will turn them off when the headlights thenselves are powered on so i don't get a weird pink light or anything.
this is a predesign, actual may differ if it looks like crap, haha.
