If I can find this bumper, I'll go with either the prior or black series hood

Ah okay. I think we are in the same boat. I am in the process of piecing together a facelift myself. I already have the 63 front bumper, headlights, fenders, grille, just need to decide on what hood I want. The black series alternatives are quite expensive ie. 3k for the prior black series hood, I believe sarona quoted me 2700 or 2800...

So that bumper is essentially the F1 Pace car bumper with a different side vent design and and led bar added...

Too bad we can't purchase the F1 bumper.

This safety car front bumper is the best body part ever fitted on a SL. It is simply perfect. Too bad no company sells a replica. Shoudn't be too hard to produce.

When they first used the SL63 as the safety car ( they don't call it pace car )
I noticed the front spoiler was different and posted a thread. I also tried to
find out where to get it, but I had no luck. This car looks great but I am not
sure about the rear diffuser, looks a bit fiddly.

Its actually one of the kits I have had my eye one....they make 5 differnt versions for SL. They are produced and carried by http://www.fxdesigncars.com/.

The site is brutially slow but the info is there. I beleive the guy that handles them in the US is in Chicago. I want to piece together my own kit using various parts of thiers but I haven't reached out just yet to start the ball rolling....

the best looking front for the round eye would be the Piecha RS. Period! everything else looks cheap on the round eye, because it's just too elegant to be modded. But the face lifted version is very modern and can be fitted in so many ways.....

just my 2 cents

Agreed. I like this kit with the round lights also. I don't care for the hood however. Still debating on the facelift or not myself.... I actually like the face on my 05. Again I think the hood and the chrome lights are too much on the black car. If it had blacked-out lights and a blacked out grill...now your are talking!

I like this hood much better...they offer it on their custom black series. I am sure you could get it the any other kit. That what I was saying earlier..I want to piece a kit together of the parts I like. Hopefully that's an option.

I guess it depends on the setup you choose...it looks like they have 5. One is non wide body and the r230 Black FX and the SL63 Black FX look to be the same to me. (other than parktronic sensors)

SL F1 (non wide body Design)

SL F2

SL FX Design

R230 Black FX Design

SL 63 Black FX

I favor the roundness of the fenders in the early model kit rather than the sharp edges on the BS 65 kit. I would black out the car, no question and make the hood functional. If its a quality kit, 5k sounds like a steal.

I'm in for a kit. I emailed FX on ebay some questions. Let me know what information you gather and I'll do the same.
