SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: anyone know of tinted mirror signal lights?
anyone know of tinted mirror signal lights?
just like the title says. seeing if anyone knows of a tinted side mirror led lights. i have found them for other mercedes, but not ours.
unfortuneately they lights do not pull apart to paint inside, and it is too convex for windor type tint. i tried using the tinting paint on it, but it is super hard to get it to lay smooth.

both looks good. the can of tint i had sitting around was about 6-7 years old, so that may have contributed to it not laying down good.
after much diligent work, i managed to separate the lens from the signal housing without breaking it. they use a glue that hardens unlike the headlights. got the inside painted black (which was my first option anyways) and headed to store right now to pick up some black silicone to glue lens back on. will post some pics when done. now they will match the style of my headlights with clear lens and black inside.
btw- i didn't find anything aftermarket tinted.

the headlights is a pretty time consumming thing. it took me about 4 hours just to figure out how to pull them apart without breaking them! that is after you remove the front bumper too. the second one only took 20 mins to have completely apart.
i just used a heat gun to soften the adhesive, and you just start prying and shimming the lens from the housing. i did a thread on it, and i think there is a couple more here but for different models.
on a side note, i think i need a new led blinker for the passenger side. haha. i didn't touch the drivers side till i knew i had a solid system of doing it. well, i figured it out, but not without a little damage to the lens. looks good at 3' or so, but up super close you can see issues. had to paint inside edge of lens black. the edge acts like a prism and viewed from different angles it looked like crap, so had to paint. got it in oven drying, will see if it is install worthy when dry, lol.

well, it looks good on the car. but, when led shines behind it you can see tiny little cracks that happened due to using the chemicals i used on it having to wipe silicone and paint off till figuring the correct method. think i feel good enough about it to do the drivers side now. should come out perfect now i know the process i will have to use and no need to back track. it is super hard to see the flaws in the pass. side, and nobody will be close to mirror while it is blinking (unless they want to get run over!) but i do have another one lined up if i can't live with it.

thanks man. it isn't all that hard, just time consumming.
you can see the very small cracks in the pic with the flash. it was due to the chemical i was using to remove the previous paint tries. i believe it chills it on evaporation and puts tiny stress cracks in it. or maybe too much heat with the heat gun.
i did just order another new passenger side led to do it over. lets hope i don't have to buy another drivers side too! find out tomorrow.
