So I was driving along at a normal speed and stepped on the gas and the engine started to sputter and a burning smell came into the car and the lights started to light up on the dash but I could not look at them as I was busy looking for a place to pull over. Found a driveway and got in right away and shut the car off. Popped the hood and there was a little smoke but I could not see anything burning but I did notice the signature plate on top of the engine was off??? like it came unglued??? So I took it and through it in the car and tried to start the car. It starts but there is a loud tapping sound and the check engine light comes out so I shut it right back off and called for a tow truck. So it is now at my local garage to be looked out tomorrow.
Any thoughts of what it could be? Anyone have this happen to them?

so you went into open loop once you punched but yet damaged the engine, did you do a compression test before you bought it?
I beleive you busted one of your cylinders...

Hope to find out more tomorrow at garage... But I take it I should have him start with the cylinders.

first read the code since you have a CEL, then if it says misfire on any cylinder then you must do a compression test and then go from there
im wondfering if where you bought it from, if they knew there was a tune on it...

Thanks for the info and advice Hulk... so your thinking that maybe the car it not stock? Like an ECU upgrade chip or flash was performed on it?
I take it my PLX KIWI Bluetooth and Droid app would tell also tell me if I have a misfire in the engine, just like my mechanics code reader?
I took it to a MB dealer when I bought it and had it checked out the same way they check the cars before they put them up for re-sale and they only found a few minor things wrong, like cracked rear flex disc and slight oil leak etc... and I also took it to another shop that works on MB and they checked it over and did not find anything major wrong with the car and I had them change the oil in it while they were checking it out... mobil1. Been running fine for the year that I have driven her.. till today... was a bit cold out today... should have kept her in the garage were it is nice and warm...

He does not work on Sundays and only stopped in to his shop so he could take a listen to the engine and park it in the garage out of the weather. He is not really going to be open until after the holidays so it will probably sit in his garage for the next few days.

Those engines usually do not blow gaskets.
My bet is an injector seized open and you dropped a valve. That I have seen a couple of times.
Let us know. It could be a hundred things.

What I can not figure out is why there was a rubber burning smell when it happened and why the signature plate came off of the super charger.... Almost like it got so hot the glue melted off the plate... Do those super chargers shut off as soon as the engine detects something is wrong and it did not cool down properly? Or perhaps did the super charger blow apart and send parts down into the engine?
It was a fun car to drive for the one year I got to drive her!
I will report back after it is looked over by a MB tech.

could be a number of reasons for burning rubber smell, sometimes the ecu cant shut down the fuel to stop detonation etc. fast enough and stuff can break, but lets see what it is first

jesus people, don't get the man all riled up with blown cylinders and crap like that.
First things first, remain calm.
secondly, pull the spark plugs, they will tell you a lot about whats going on in the combustion chamber.
thirdly, do leakdown and compression testing
if that is inconclusive, have a look with a boroscope.
There is a chance this is a minor problem...an engine with multiple misfires is going to sound terrible.
