Version 13, dated 2014 is the latest update that works in the 2005 SL. You can buy it at the dealer or from navigation.com. For reasons known only to MB it is not listed for the 2005SL. You find it by entering 2007E class. The discs interchange with the SL. It will not change the basic functionality of the system. It allows you to key in a specific street address, but it then forces you to select from blocks of addresses that are presented in order to begin the route function.

Quote: Interesting, since I'm looking to purchase one as well. v.10 is listed on navteq's website for the SL class, v.13 2014 is listed for the E-class. I thought only the 09+ SL R230 had the NTG Comand?
I don't know enough to know how different the 09+ models might be, but Navteq claims this V.10 disc will work in my '05 nav unit. However, to be honest it would not surprise me if it would not.

The v.13 works in the 2005 SL, I am using it. I also own a 2009 SL, it has a totally different system. The discs are not interchangeable between the 2005 and 2009 SL.
The only differences between the v.10 and v.13 are updated roads and POI's.

So to reiterate, when buying the V.13 2014 DVD command, reference the 2007 E class to the parts dept at the dealership, and this should work on the 2005 SL55 Command?

That is correct. I am sure the parts counter person will resist this since his computer will not list this disc for your car. The disc packaging does not show the 2005 SL compatibility either. I always purchased my discs direct from navigation.com.

Then I guess if the nav system still will direct you only to a "block" rather than a specific address, other than getting the updated roads, etc., there is really no use in buying it to correct the address function issue?

Frankly, is just pisses me off a little to buy a $180,000 dollar car (new) that provides such a piece of crap nav system. I mean my old $100 Tom-Tom is far superior. Oh well, I got along for about 40 years just using a street map before Nav systems and GPS existed, so I really don't need it, just saying.

At least they finally got it figured out better, our '13 GLK has a pretty good nav system, although I don't think it is as user friendly as it could be. It still puzzles my wife, but I don't think she really even wants to learn how to use it. Once she figured out how to get her cell phone configured to work in the car she was happy as she could be.

I am unsure of the vintage of your car, but consider that the NTG1 was pretty high-tech back when I was first introduced. MB charged a pretty penny for navigation in their cars.

I don't disagree that measured by today's standards, it is pretty bad. However, with updated DVD's consider what you are missing. Not much in my opinion. So the system have you select a street number range instead of the actual number.. so what! If is puts you on the correct street and block, you should be able to find the correct location.

Complaining about that reminds me of the commercials where a driver blindly follows the navigation and drives into a house, lake or something else.

I received the 2015 updated disc and installed it in my 2006 S65. It loaded in 5 to 10 seconds and works perfectly. I do not have the 2005 SL here at the house to try it but both cars use the same NTG1 navigation system. I had the 2013 version of this disc in both cars.

Sorry for the ignorant question but, is the nav in 07-08 models the same as 03-06? Thought one was CD based and the newer is DVD? Am I close?

In the S class, the navigation changed from the NTG1 DVD based system to a hard disc based system in 2007. The multiple CD based system was last used in 2003 in the S class. in the SL the first year of the DVD based system was 2005 and it was used through I believe 2008. My 2009 SL has the computer style hard disc system. In the E class, which is the system the new DVD discs are listed to cover, the NTG1 DVD based system was used from at least 2006 through 2008. I think but do not know for sure it may also have been used in the 2004 and 2005 E class as well.

in the 2003-2004 SL, the navigation is CD based. I just purchased the "latest update" from the dealer and it was from 2011. Seems strange but ok.. Anyone know different?

I have never been able to get my command navigation to accept actual street addresses in my 05 SL and at the suggestion of this or another forum I purchased a 2008 disc, but it made no difference, still cannot program actual addresses. Are you able to do this?
