SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: R230 SL65 AMG Tuning Advice
I was really curious about the packages Speedriven offers like there 700HP kit and there 1000HP kit. Can anyone provide any feedback on what they have done with there SL65s.
Also I'm looking on converting my 2006 look to more of a 09-12 Black Series or wide body look and I'm curious on the headlight conversion from the 03-08 look to the 09-12 look and what needs to be done.
They all do the same, re map ECU for more fuel, boost, ignition, done on a PC. All the expensive extras are to help the engine cope with the extra
boost and power, and can cost thousands. The only cheap mod I would have
is to fit a Johnson I/c pump, just stick with the re map, 1k - 2k.

others. Having a very good friend in a well known tuning company this is how it goes. Basic remap, ecu adjusts petrol, air, ignition and of course
boost. Cost 2 to 5 grand. Now the only way to make it faster is to increase
boost. This is where big money comes in, Tuned manifolds, big intercoolers,
huge exhaust systems, on and on ... by them selves they will cost a fortune,
and by themselves will add very little extra power, UNTIL the boost is turned
up even more. So in a way I am right, all tuners increase boost to gain power and done properly that's all that needs doing. I have had many different cars tuned over the last 35 years, and without doubt the stage one
conversion gives the most discernible extra power, if you then spend more
on all the other mods it's because your a petrol head, as these extra mods
will serve to let you use the extra boost safely, At the end of the day God
bless Turbos for that increase kick. Just ask someone trying to get lots of
quick extra power from a naturally aspirated engine.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I've had the most recent Speedriven ECU & TCU tune in my SL65 and thought it performed well, but still had several different problem with this tune. Among the problems was problems with highspeed driving and another issue was poor gas milage.
After 3 o4 4 upgrades and still experience problems and then as everybody has noticed lately, no feedback at all from Speedriven, I've finally went with Kleemann.
I've got their ECU tune and TCU (transmission computer upgrade) and my expectation was not high but I have to say, this is in another league.
Power distribution is much more like a race engine, torque is moved up higher so it fits the next gear. The TCU has a much faster and firmer gearshift, and especially in manual, is has very fast and firm shift - much better than from Speedriven.
Conclusion is they are not all the same!!

Just kidding
But first after I supported the economy in USA :-)
The Speedriven is a worthless tuning only meant for 1/4 mile race and not tested properly - I've found several problems when using the car some more what is was designed for.
Kleemann was a natural choice when located in DK.
