More problems in the SL55

Well only had the car a few months and its starting to really annoy me.

Couple things happening last little while. Couple days ago was driving think heard some popping ? then check engine light came on and car lost power .
Scanned it and got P0 300, P0303 and P0305.
Misfire codes and last two are cylinder 3 and cylinder 5. Car has only 33,000 miles on the clock.

I was going to take it to dealer to read codes but got a code reader thing for around 100 bucks and it works on lots of different cars.

Today changed out air cleaners to green filters ,the factory were pretty dirty.
Also think there was a hose off that connects to valve cover? At back on drivers side. Maybe causing a vacuum leak or something? There was no clamp on this house would think should be on boosted car?

Anyway cleared codes and took car for brief drive. So far no misfire codes no check engine light.
So figured maybe got lucky.

Now problem that had previously month or so ago resurfaced. All of a sudden it seemed car was revving in neutral but said drive and didn't seem to want to manually shift. I was going to try a restart think that worked last time. This time it seemed to come back and managed to get the car home. Was close by. I pulled a code with the new scanner and it was PO730 something about wrong gear?
So now wondering about this. I think some guys said accelerator sensor thing can go fubar and do weird stuff to shifting? But does that throw a code?

I see their is no way to check your trans fluid level no dipstick.... So guess to check it have to go to dealer and they have to drop pan or something to check level? I am so far not seeing any other transmission codes.

I am a not bad backyard mechanic but this car is starting to scare me.
From reading some of the stuff on these cars starting to think should maybe be going back to domestics. My 2008 z06 never had a problem and never saw warranty. Sold it because was sick of manual where I live.
And love the retractible hardtop and the SL55 is a sweet ride but hoping its not going to be spending tons of time at dealership or in my garage waiting on parts to fix it.

Its not my daily driver. My daily is an ML350 that so far has been pretty good reliability wise. Its at 116km and only had that one a year. The Sl55 is 55k and really would think they should be very reliable till they hit 150k or so. If they are breaking like crazy under 50,000 miles then likely not the car for me. I can afford one but its more the annoyance factor. I have had good reliability in my domestics.

I love my SL55 just hoping can get it running properly hate to have it laid up in summer.

So any ideas on the transmission thing? Could it be that gas pedal sensor?
I am not seeing any puddles of any kind on my garage floor. No transmission fluid or any other fluid.

Again it not about the mileage but about the maintains ... or lacking of the same ... and as Alex say, the early cars had a lot of bad parts which has been change to the better in later cars but no doubt; this is a car that needs full attention and care ...... if it's not what you were expecting why not change it for a SL550 ? That’s a beautiful car and for what I think more reliable and parts are cheaper than for the AMG.
If you want I have a "write down" of issues of the AMG I could send you as a PM - it's in Word sheet.

Ok thanks see can check trans oil if order one of those dipsticks but they are too long to leave in there. So don't have to remove the pan to check level with one of those.

I have been searching forums for this transmission issue and sounds like could be a bunch of things. I am pretty sure my car did get some coffee or pop spilled into center console the buttons on center console were sticky and some were not working right. I sprayed the center console with electrical contact cleaner and it seemed to work. All my buttons work but still have one button on the stereo that isn't working.

But now reading that this could cause big problems by getting in the shifter or shorting out the tcu.

So not sure if should be possibly buying replacement shifter or tcu. I am pretty handy and might be cheaper to do this stuff myself and have some spare parts then let dealership mess on car for possibly hours and hours and we all know stealership prices for parts are ridiculous.
Example bought a spare center console control panel for 160 off ebay and dealer wanted 800 for it .They want 900 for a cracked carbon fiber ashtray lid. LOL

So just not sure what should do or try first. It cant' hurt to get the transmission fluid and filter changed. Then if that don't solve problem guess could look at tcu for fluid and or replace it and possibly shifter.
Hopefully won't be complete transmission replacement needed.

Can that accelerator sensor cause weird shifting problems like am having? They sound easy to swap out and not against having a few spare parts for this car.

So far only code getting and its pending right now light is not yet lit up is P0730. Did recently get as said though PO300 and P0303 and P0305. I do think that one hose was not connected to the valve cover on drivers side near back. Not sure what effect this might have on the misfire codes. I reconnected it ,cleared the codes but only had short drive then the transmission got weird.

I see you can get coils, wires ,plugs fairly reasonable on ebay. But would think that shouldn't really need wires, coils or plugs at only 30,000 miles.
But having a few spare coils around might be good idea.

Also wondering if you can now get iridium plugs for my car?

Update:
Did some shifting relearn thing found on net you floor it for 15 seconds then let it sit few minutes with key in and then drive it as you want it to be for first 40 shifts..

Anyway left it in drive most all of todays drive and it was working perfectly transmission wise and did bit of manual shifting when close to home. no problems.
So if still ok next few days take it in to dealer and get trans fluid changed and filter .

If still acting up maybe its shifter from getting stuff spilled into it or tcu. I will take out tcu and inspect it and see if any oil has made its way up there from transmission as well.

I saw no codes today at all. I also have not seen any PO300 or 303 or 305 codes today in the hour drive.
I went wot several times car was running strong no problems today. Was happy camper today.
I installed new Green air filters and the old ones were very dirty. I put in some fuel injector cleaner at Chevron and filled up with the Chevron gas. Usually go to Shell but heard Techron is good stuff . They didn't sell it in the station though just put in some stp injector cleaner. Will fill up at Chevron from now on most all the time . Its close to me anyway.

Also there was a disconnected hose on drivers side connecting to valve cover . So what effect would it have on things? Car seems to be running smoother now maybe had bit of clogged injector, maybe the air filters maybe that disconnected hose causing a vacuum leak..

So hopefully will keep running good as its summertime here and very nice time of year ,perfect for a vert . One of main reasons got the SL55 was love the retractible hardtop option. Like it much better than ragtop.

Think you will need this: http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/o...stedDocId=9124 save you a lot of green ...... it does however covers up to only the 2005 but should be pretty much the same for a 2007
