AMG providing engeneering for the next-gen Astons...rebagaded SL63???
Aston Martin has officially announced that it will use Mercedes-Benz AMG to develop the engines (and maybe more) for the next generation of the Brit cars:

It says the V8 engines will be new, but the bi-turbo 5.5 already makes almost as much as the current Aston V12.

Come on, this is business. Mercedes sells engineering that is already done and paid for. What's not to like, if your are a Mercedes share holder.
Porsche has a engineering department proportioned way larger than they should need or can use. Why? Because they do so much work for other company's. And not exclusively automotive. Some work is well publicized, other work is totally on the QT.
And Aston Martin isn't exactly the low rent district. That certainly will not reflect poorly on MB.

MB R&D is business. first few years they develop for Benz to use and then they sell it to other companies that are willing to pay. Everyone does it, some more than others. Brings in significant revenue to put towards new tech research.

To me it seems like Aston Martin is tapping out.
Then again it's not like these car makers are that much different now. Isn't Ford/Aston/Jaguar the same company now?

If I remember right Ford sold Land Rover and Jaguar to Tata Motors so they are both Indian own now, and If I remember right Aston Martin was not part of the deal and currently Aston is privately owned by people from America, the GCC

According to the articles I've seen the engines AMG will provide will be bespoke engines, not off the shelf AMG models. So no 6.2 or 5.5tt etc used in AMG cars. Just like AMG makes engines for Pagani which are not used by AMG models.

Aston makes a good interior styling and body styling, but it sucks big time in technology. BUT you still have to pay top dollar for the car. Now maybe you can get more updated hardware for your money. (of course the price will raise even more still)
